It was late and much past curfew which meant all the lights were off.
Violet laid on her back while looking up at the bunk as her arms were spread out. She closed her eyes then opened them again to turn the other way, facing the wall. Insomnia, when one has trouble sleeping. How was it that even on a comfortable bed Violet Myers still could not fall asleep? Easy, it was way too early to be sleeping.
Her eyes were facing the wall as she felt hands being placed on her shoulder, shaking her.
"C'mon, there's no way you're actually asleep right now," Kenji whispered to her as he kneeled down. "We're gonna sneak up on Dino Nerd."
The one on the top bunk was Yasmina who was still awake, quietly drawing in the dark under her blanket. She heard everything, even the shuffling of when Violet was trying to sleep.
With Violet still facing the wall, she smiled with a whisper. "Out past curfew?" She then turned around with a smile which made Kenji smile and he had a pretty good feeling that she was on board. "Totally. Let's go." She told him.
They both hurried but quietly made their way to the first floor which is where they found Darius, in the dark.
Kenji leaned on the wall and flipped the light switch on with his eyes on the target. "Oh, hey there, dino-nerd. Whatcha doin?"
"Huh? Uh, nothing!" Darius jumped at the voice. He quickly turned around, fumbling with his words. "I was just, uh, heading out 'cause...thirsty." A nervous smile was on his face, hoping they'd believe his terrible lie.
Kenji pointed at Violet who was near the snacks area. Her arm rested on the water gallon machine beside her as she took a sip from the water cup.
"Oh, yeah. I...meant, um...hungry." Darius made another excuse, keeping the nervous smile on his face. He was not expecting to see Kenji, no less Violet. It was like the two got into their positions just to corner him. Kenji walked to the snack bar and Darius followed him while thanking him.
Kenji nodded as he put an arm around Darius' shoulder. "Yeah, I don't want you to be intimidated by me just because I'm rich, my father owns a few condos on the island, and I'm rich."
"Uh, I'm not intimidated by you." Darius looked up at Kenji who still had his arms around him. He then looked at Violet. "If anything I'd be more intimidated by her than you." He pointed at Violet first then at Kenji. "But I'm not."
Kenji was taken a bit back while looking at Violet. Before he could say anything she had spoken first.
"Kenji, stop trying to scare the little one." Violet walked forward to him with a smile as she glanced at Kenji. "We're all campers here. We would never rat each other out."
