" We're moving"

Those two words turned my world upside down. For the past few months my parents were constantly arguing, ending in a divorce and a mother who wanted me to stay with her but I didn't want to, my father means the world to me and I go wherever he goes. I bite the inside of my cheek looking out the window, "You okay over there?" Michael, my father asks. Nodding my head I let out a small hum, my eyes never leaving the ocean that was beside the car. I heard him sigh before turning the radio up, and flipping through the channels, "Livin' with the danger. I'm always on the edge now" Guns and Roses sang through the speakers " Stop" I said, my father chuckles and removes his hand from the knob, he never really liked Guns and Roses for some reason, I've tried asking him multiple times why but he would always come up with some bullshit reason. I sing along to the song until it's over, " Is Uncle Sam going to be there?" my eyes finally left the ocean to look at my father, he shakes his head sighing, not bothering to glance my way " He's off with those Frog brothers" he said, rolling my eyes I look out the front windshield. Alan and Edger Frog. I didn't really care for the two, they were weird, like obsessed with vampires and other supernatural weird. They always talk about vampires and how to kill them, one of the brothers even told me a story about helping my father when he lived in Santa Carla with Sam and my grandma, but I never believed him, no matter how hard he tried to convince me. I notice a sign coming up on the right, finally we're here. When we pass the big welcoming sign I look in the review mirror my eyes widen as I read Murder capital of the world spray painted in red it's colors faded but the words still visible " What the hell" I mumble, looking towards my father eyes still wide "Murder capital of the world. Where did you move me to?" I ask, my father looks at me before he shakes his head leaning back "It's always said that, even when I was your age. It's safe now. I promise" he said, not believing him I shake my head and lean back against the seat. In the distance I notice a roller coaster with stuff around it, frowning I sit up to get a better look as we pass between buildings "That's the boardwalk" he said, I couldn't help but smile, at least there's something fun to do in this town "I'm so going down there tonight"  my father chuckles messing with my hair causing me to turn my attention to him. I let out a small growl as I smack his hand away, "You can go down there, but first you have to carry some stuff in and unpack a little" he said, I nod my head agreeing,  besides there was still a few hours before nightfall. I couldn't keep the smile off my face. Maybe Santa Carla wouldn't be so bad after all.

When we pull up to the house I take in the old wooden statues and over grown grass. My great grandfather used to live here and so did my father with his brother and mom after she got a divorce. Funny how history repeats. I open the passenger side door getting out, " The door should be unlocked, but if not here" my father said, I turn to him and take the key he holds out. I grab my duffel bag from the back and make my way to the front door. The porch was old, and definitely needs to be replaced, a broken chair was off to the side. How long has this place been vacant?. I twist the door handle to find out it was unlocked, sighing I shake my head. A few weeks before the divorce was finalized my father traveled here to see the house, clean a few things, and bring some stuff, why he would leave the door unlocked was beyond me. My father was to trusting at times along with having horrible judgement. I walk into the house and look around, there was furniture with sheets over them so they wouldn't collect dust, my eyes land on a few animals that were stuffed, " Talk about chainsaw massacre" I mumble, there was a loud laugh behind me causes me to jump. Turning around facing my father, he smiles down at me " Sam said the samething" he says as he puts a few boxes down. I roll my eyes and make my towards the stairs, " Your rooms the second door on the left " he said, I give him a thumbs up while walking up the steps. When I get to the room I open the door and walk in. Looking around slowly I take in the space, there was a dresser, a closet and a bed. The moving trucks wouldn't be here for a few days so I would have to make do. Dropping my duffel bag I make my way to the window, I got a view of the side of the house but I didn't mind, it's not like I spend lots of time in my room anyways. Spinning around on the heel of my shoe, I walk over to the bed and remove the large sheet that covers it, " Octavia come help me unload" my father calls from downstairs, rolling up the sheet I toss it onto the floor near the closet before making my way downstairs and out the door.
