Thirty three
Katherine's POV
I must have circled the party half a dozen times looking for James, but I couldn't find him anywhere. One person said he was this way, another said he was that way, and after about an hour of going this way and that, I give up. Maybe he'd left already. I'm not sure why he would, but I didn't want to spend the night looking for him. I needed a drink.
Making my way to the kitchen, I search through the contents of the room and finally pick out a beer that hadn't been opened or smashed yet. Now, where's the bottle opener? I move bottles upon bottles out of the way trying to search for the thing, on every counter there's collections of empty cans and dirty paper plates, but no opener. "Goddamn it!" I grumble and push over a few cans in frustration.
"Careful there, Kate. You don't want to hurt yourself," I look over my shoulder and see Josh leaning against the counter behind me, smirking. I roll my eyes at him and slouch over the sink in defeat. I feel him walk over to me and stand still by my side. He holds out his hand and I wonder what he wants until he nods towards the bottle in my hand. I frown but give it to him anyway, watching as he takes a bottle opener from off the fridge and pops off the bottle cap. I gape at him as he hands me the bottle and he chuckles softly. "Always check the fridge,"
I take the bottle from his grasp and nudge his side. "Alright, genius," He pulls me to his side and sips on his own beer. "What are you doing here anyway? I thought you were stopping the partying," He laughs and pulls me out the kitchen to find a place to sit. We find a nice spot by the stairs and settle down, occasionally smirking at the completely intoxicated dancing to a Kesha song.
"I was stopping, but then I thought, what's the point? It's nice to get drunk sometimes." He states with a shrug, and I smirk.
"Sometimes?" I mock and he frowns, shoving my arm and fake laughs. I turn back towards the party and see two people in the corner sloppily making out. I had to squint and shake my head a few times before I realise that the couple I'm seeing are Maggie and Brad. "Oh my god,"
Not only had I caught Chloe and Cameron in the act, but now two of my other best friends were caught as well. What the hell is going on?
"They've been at it all night," Josh tells me, looking over to where Brad had my best friend pinned against the wall. I pull a face, feeling very confused but shake it off knowing neither of them will remember any of it in the morning. Josh sniggers and continues to sip on his beer. "Where's lover boy anyway?"
"He has a name, you know," I tell him, but my brother just smiles cunningly at me. I roll my eyes and sigh heavily. "I don't know. He's not answering his phone."
"Uh oh, trouble in paradise?"
"Shut up, Josh. There's no paradise to have trouble with." I take a big gulp of my beer, but instantly regret it when I start coughing. "That's disgusting."
