Chapter 10
(Rebecca's POV)
I was beyond excited to go to the party and I was even more excited about the surprise I had for Valerie. Neither the boys nor Valerie knew that I had found and invited her ex from high school, Christopher. He was genuinely excited to see Valerie and was even more happy at the fact that she was recently single. We were sitting in the sleek black car on our way to Vegas. My plan was falling into place perfectly and Valerie looked absolutely stunning so I knew that Harry was going to regret breaking her heart. She was like a sister to me so I would hurt anyone who broke her heart. I made sure she wore the dark night blue dress that would hug her figure and it didn't reveal too much. I teased her how it made her look like the goddesses we're meant to be. We were both bubbling with excitement and we still had another hour until we would arrive. "What time does the party start?" Valerie asked me. I shrugged and checked the time on the dashboard. It was 5:30. "Niall said that its supposed to start at six." I said checking my phone. Chris had texted me saying he would be there around eight.
Finally around 6:30 we arrived at the party and immediately paparazzi swarmed us. Niall and his friend, Josh, pushed their way through the crowd to meet us. "Hey girls! Glad you made it!" Josh said. I linked my arm through Niall's arm and he led me down the carpet and into the party. I glanced back to see Valerie do the same with Josh. Luckily he was still a whole two feet taller than Valerie even when she wore the heels. She was very tall for her age but it apparently always worked in her favor because Josh, Harry, and Chris were way taller than Valerie. To me though, they looked like giants. I was only a mere five foot four inches tall so most everyone I knew was way taller than me. "You look fantastic by the way." Niall said smiling at me. "Thank you very much." I replied. Sometimes I wasn't sure if Niall still had some feelings toward me with some of his comments but when he would start talking about girls to me, I knew where his heart was. "Where's Thomas?" I asked Niall as he led me to a table with the rest of the boys. I didn't see Thomas and I became a little worried he wasn't coming. "He said he has a surprise for you." Zayn answered. I nodded, unsure if I should be worried or not. I got a text and I glanced down to see it from Chris saying he had arrived. I turned to Valerie and flashed her the biggest smile. "What? You've been like this all day." She asked. "I have a surprise for you." I said taking her hand.
We ran to the front of the ballroom to wait. "Okay. Seriously Rebecca what is going on?" Valerie asked facing me. I saw Chris approaching us from just past her elbow. "Surprise!" I said turning her around. I heard her gasp when she locked eyes with Chris. I smiled walking back to my table with the boys. Everything was working out perfectly. "Rebecca, your presence is requested." Louis said bowing to me. I giggled and he took me to the front of the big banquet. There, a large arrangement of tulips and lilies waited for me. A small white card stuck out from amongst the millions of flowers. I picked it up and read it: "My beautiful fiancée. I hope you find these to be as lovely as you tonight. Love always, Thomas."
I looked up at Louis. "Does this mean he's not coming?" I asked him a little sadly. "No. It means there's more to your surprise." Louis said pointing behind me. I quickly turned around and my heart jumped out of my chest. Thomas held a single tulip with an engagement ring directly in the center of it. He walked up to my and went to one knee. "I know I've already asked but it didn't feel right and it didn't feel official so I'm asking you again. Rebecca, will you become my wife?" Thomas asked taking my hand and slipping the ring on my finger. This morning I had put on the original ring he gave me but when I got out of the shower it was gone. I had panicked and searched everywhere for it but I had to leave so I promised myself that I would have all the boys and Valerie help me look for it the next day.
But now I had a whole new different ring on my finger that would mean more to me. I nodded my head as tears began to erupt from my eyes. It felt like this was going to be a magical night.
(Valerie's POV)
My heart dropped when I saw Chris. I thought that I would never see him again but there he was standing in front of me. "Hi." I said a little out of breath. "Hey." He smiled showing off his perfectly white teeth. When he smiled I couldn't help but smile back. It was one of the things that I had loved about him. How genuine his smile seemed, like he was really happy to be talking to you. I stood there smiling at him like an idiot and wasn't sure what to say. "So I'm guessing Rebecca didn't tell you why I'm here?" Chris asked doing that cute sheepish smile. I shook my head looking around for her. "Valerie? I miss you. I realized that it was the biggest mistake leaving you and not going after you when you left for college." He said taking my hand. I couldn't process his words. Was he really asking for me back and was he being serious? I looked into his eyes and knew in my heart that he was.
Before I could say something, I felt someone wrap a strong arm around my waist and pull me towards them. I looked up to see Harry glaring at Chris and hugging me to his side. "What are you doing?" I asked him pushing away. "Who's this?" Harry asked. "I'm Chris. Valerie's ex from high school." Chris said extending his hand for Harry to shake. He awkwardly brought his hand back down when Harry just stared at him. "Who are you?" Chris asked. "He's my recent ex." I said looking at Harry. It was obvious my words struck a nerve because his face fell but his hands clenched into fist. "Look I don't want any trouble. I just came to ask Valerie on a date if she'll forgive me." Chris said looking at me with a hopeful look. I was about to say yes when Harry reached back and knocked Chris out.
