Louis’s POV

Leila is the only thing on my mind as I walk back to our room. The pretty way the corners of her mouth lift up slowly and almost nervously when she smiles; the delicate shade of pink that creeps into her cheeks when she blushes. And quite honestly, it was nice to meet a girl who didn’t scream or faint or cry when she saw me. I mean, of course I’m flattered by all the attention and I adore the fans, but sometimes it gets a little tiring. I don’t know if Leila was acting cool and calm or if she just didn’t know who I am, but I honestly don’t think I care.

In fact, the only thing about Leila that gives me any second thoughts is the fact that something about her seems distinctly familiar. I’m sure I’ve never met her before—she’s the type of girl I would remember—but I just can’t shake the feeling that I already know her.

Don’t be crazy, Louis. You just met this girl, I tell myself. You’ve never met her before.

The door to our room is unlocked when I get there, so I just was right on in.

“Boys! What’s the big emergency?” I call to the room at large, closing the door behind me.

The laughter that greets this statement is loud and strong.

“What’s so funny?” I demand.

Niall, who is sitting on the couch and is closest to me right now, says, “There isn’t any emergency, Louis. We just wanted to mess with you.”

More laughter.

“Are you serious?” I ask, raising my eyebrows slightly.

“It was Harry’s idea,” adds Liam, chortling. “He said you sounded really annoyed on the phone.”

“I was, and I am now!” I pick up the nearest pillow and chuck it at Harry’s head. He dodges it easily, still laughing. “I was talking to a very lovely girl, and you all interrupted it!”

The boys’ moods change instantly. Now, instead of laughing, they are silly and teasing.

“Oh, Louis met a girl,” Harry says, drawing out the word “girl” so it’s several syllables long.

“A pretty girl?” Zayn asks.

“Very pretty girl,” I reply. “Very nice, too. Sweet smile. We were having a lovely conversation, until you all interrupted it!”

They all have the good grace to look a bit ashamed of themselves.

“Sorry, mate. We would’ve left you alone if we’d known,” Niall says apologetically.

“We didn’t completely ruin things for you, did we?” Liam asks.

“No, I’m meeting her again tomorrow,” I reply. “Lucky for you all. Otherwise, I’d have to think of some very sinister way to punish you. For instance, Harry, I would have shaved your head in the middle of the night.”

“I’m going to remember you said that,” Harry says, throwing the pillow back at me. I catch it and toss it back on the couch.

“What’s her name?” Zayn asks.

“Leila,” I reply. That strange feeling of familiarity washes over me again, insisting that Leila is someone I’ve already met.
