"Ꞥⱥⱦꞩᵾᵯē" — "Hatsuki, will you marry me?" A young man named Raiko, asked his lover smiling. A young girl in red and — in the face of it — 19 years old, hid behind a tree. She watched as the scene unfolded, she watched it; as she had promised. Though, it was with a face that showed signs of inner conflict and turmoil, with a heart that grew heavier and heavier with uncertainty and — maybe — even regret.
"YES!" shouted Hatsuki, jumping and clapping in delight. She giggled, hugging her lover-now-fiancé tightly. They laughed and smiled, like it was their happy ever after as everyone came out of their hiding spots and celebrated alongside them. Everyone that watched it happen was happy, excited.
Well...
Almost everyone.
"Are you happy now, sister? Letting the man you love — The only man you've ever loved — marry someone else?" A young teen that seemed to be about the age of 16 — asked his sister as he approached her, footfalls heavy; He was angry — Possibly beyond angry, even.
"Are you alright with letting another girl spend their lifetime with the man you love and still love the most?" he asked once more, fists clenched.
"...." The young lady was silent. She bore a contemplating face as she watched the events play out before closing her eyes. Sighing in defeat and looking upward towards the sky; she spoke:
"The question shouldn't be if I'm alright, Kaito. It should be whether or not he's happy with it. If he doesn't like me, then he doesn't." He turned to look at the ground, his face covered by the shadow of his hair. Nevertheless, all you need is one look at him and you'd be able to tell that he was livid and seething with rage. The young girl was treading on a thin thread, but even then, she acted as though all was normal.
"....Back then, when you two were close.. Were the chances really so slim? Or was that just an excuse so that you didn't have to say anything?" The younger male said, gritting his teeth. It almost seemed like it'd break under the strength, the pressure.
"Is it really that important? There are so many others." She hummed before continuing.
"I could just try and fall in love again." She then turned her gaze to her younger brother. The boys face snapped up to look at her.
"Tell me that when you lose your feelings for him and actually move on." He said. The girl just replied with a small hum; Her calm demeanor was pissing him off to no end. He was just about to shout before she interrupted him by raising her hand in front of him.
"Enough, Kaito. What's happened has happened. There's no turning back now." She said, "And besides, we don't want to ruin their lovely day. So..." She turned around, signaling for him to follow. "Let's go home. After all..."
"My promise has already been fulfilled."
...
......
"I just wish that the promise was fulfilled in a... Different way..."
"But I suppose... That's impossible now." She smiled wistfully, heart aching.
10 Years Later
"You never did move on after all." A man said, placing flowers on the smooth surface.
"Because of that, you lost." He smiled sadly, a tear falling from his eye. "This is your — not so happy — end." A low rumble came from his throat; a bitter chuckle.
"Right?"
.....
"Sister?"
