~Qibli~
Moon came home pretty late from working as a teacher. Apparently, she also had to run the student council this afternoon, and then after that, she had to take her therapy session, so she came home around 8:00. I, on the other hand, was busy all day working on the missing women's case, so I only came home an hour before Moon.
"Qibli!" Moon greeted me tiredly as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I instantly hugged her back.
"How was work?" I asked as she pulled away, dropping her bag on the island in our kitchen.
"I was put in charge of an intern, but apart from that and my student constantly flirting with me, it was pretty peaceful," Moon said, giving me a tired smile.
"Should I be worried?" I asked with a small laugh. Moon chuckled and shook her head as she made her way over to me, placing a kiss on my lips.
"What's there to be worried about?" Moon asked after pulling away.
We have been married for about 13 years now, about a year and a half after Glory and Deathbringer moved. When we were trying for a kid for a while, it never worked out and we simply stopped trying since it pretty much broke Moon's heart every time a pregnancy test would come back negative.
On another note, I think that's also the reason why Moon would never want to visit her brother in the past. Both Deathbringer and I kept on bringing it up, but Moon always insisted she was too busy or too tired. I'm not saying she was lying when she said that, because Moon is a very hardworking person, but a tiny part of me felt she was using those as excuses. I could tell she just didn't want to see Deathbringer living his best life with kids–the one thing we couldn't have.
"Have you heard how Glory and Deathbringer are doing?" Moon asked, letting the mail she had taken from the mailbox scatter across the table. "I've tried getting in contact with them, but I get no response."
"Glory's doing better," I said. "That's all I know."
Moon sighed before stopping. "Oh, wow."
"What is it?" I asked, walking up next to her. In her hand was a wedding invitation. "Who's it from?"
Moon opened the letter, scanned it, and saw that Ostrich's name was signed at the bottom.
"I did not think she'd make it this far with Cryptic," Moon commented, scanning the letter over again. "The wedding is a month from now. When's the funeral?"
"They still haven't picked out a date for that," I said thoughtfully. Moon opened and closed her mouth for a moment like she wanted to say something but didn't at the same time. I gently rested a hand on her back.
"When I see my brother... I don't know what to say to him," Moon said quietly. "We've... I have been there with him through almost everything. But now... how can I be there for him if I can't even begin to relate to him right now?"
I searched her face for a moment. "Python was like a son to you, too," I gently said. "You lost him alongside Deathbringer. That you can relate to. And you're with him no matter what. He's your brother and you're his sister, and that isn't an easy bond to break."
Moon stared at me for such a long moment that I thought she looking right through me. She eventually blinked and looked away, fidgeting with the invitation.
"Qibli, there's something I want to—need to tell you, but I can't," Moon said. "Not right now, at least. With the funeral coming up, it'd be a bad time to... I'll just put a pin on it. But I had to say something or else I'd lose it."
I blinked at her, fear slipping down my spine. "Did you... cheat on me?"
Moon seemed slightly startled, and then she was mad. "No, Qibli, I did not cheat on you. It's insulting that you'd even consider that."
