People are always telling me how great my childhood was. The thing is, I don't remember it very well. All I can vaguely see in my mind is having everything at the exact moment I demanded it. Sad, almost. I got everything I ever wanted.
That was before I made the biggest mistake of my life. That was before my whole world turned upside down. That was before my parents sent me away to live with my uncle. That was before I met him.
Harry Edward Styles.

"Madeline!" The name echoed through my mind. I turned up the volume to block it out, but it didn't end. Before I knew it, someone had yanked the earbuds out of my ears and again, I was getting yelled at.
"What?" I snapped, clenching my phone in my hand.
"You're been in your room all day! You should be outside," Mum said, wrenching open the curtains and letting in the blinding rays. I made a strange groaning sound and covered my eyes. "Go outside." Mum repeated.
I shook my head, "I don't want to."
"Well too bad." She pointed towards the door.
I sighed. "Mum, there's no point in going out when there's nothing to do. Sophie and Madi aren't back 'till next week." My awkward friendships. Madi, Maddie, and Sophie.
"Maddie, it's a perfectly nice day out, can't you just find something else to do?"
I nodded. "I could listen to music and wish I was in Cancoon with Sophie and Madi." I took my earbuds out of Mum's hand and began playing the music again.
"No!" Mum snapped. "Madeline..." She grabbed my phone back out of my hand. "You don't get this back until tonight."
"Ugh." I rolled my eyes and walked to the bathroom, slamming the door behind me.
It was summer, I didn't have anything to do. Eventually I was so bored out of my mind, I went downstairs to try to negotiate with Mum. She gave in and let me use my phone to call one person. I decided to call Hazelle, a new girl in my class. Mum didn't know her. If she did, she wouldn't let me call her. She dressed in dark colours and wore heels to school. She was from America, New York I think.
"Hello?" Her annoyed tone caught me by surprise.
"Oh, yeah hey!" I said slowly. "It's Maddie... from maths?"
"Oh yeah.. hi." She replied.
"Uh..." I paused. "Are you busy?"
"Nah, I'm just throwing rocks into your pool..."
"Where are you?" I asked.
"On my roof."
I looked out the kitchen window to see about fifty fist-sized rocks at the bottom of the swimming pool in our backyard, and Hazelle wazing from her roof. "Oh.."
"Yeah. What are you doing?" She asked.
"I'm trying to think of ways to tell my parents it wasn't me," I said honestly.
She laughed. It wasn't a 'ha-ha that's funny' type of laugh, more like a 'you're gonna get in trouble' kind of laugh.
"So I was wondering...Do you want to go into town and do something?"
"What kind of 'do something'?" She asked, without much colour in her tone.
"I don't know... Get coffee, go to the park and flirt with strangers."
