"Hop hop hop." It was a peaceful drive as the little girl played with her bunny in the back seat. The parents in the front kept glancing at each other as if they were having a conversation they didn't want their daughter to hear. The mother suggested they all have a picnic since it was such a nice day outside.
The little girl was ecstatic to spend time with her mommy and daddy. Lately they were acting very strange and kept getting visits from a man with red eyes. When asked about their visitor the little girls mother told them that mind their business and not worry about it and so she didn't. As they pulled up to the park the mother turned to the back and looked at her daughter the smile not quite matching her face. "Okay honey let's go have us a picnic."
The small family picked a nice spot by the tree and set their blanket down. As the father pulled out some snacks he didn't make eye contact with the little girl or even tried to acknowledge her. The daughter tries to interact with her parents as much as she could but they both brushed off her questions and comments showing how uninterested they were. After an hour the mother glanced at her watch they sighed "Kendra honey do you want to play a game with mommy?" Kendra, the little girl, nodded with a big smile on her face. The father finally stood up and held out his hand "let's play hide and seek okay mommy will be it so we have to go hide."
As the mother closed her eyes and counted the father took Kendra behind a tree and whispered, "You stay here and daddy will go find another hiding place just be quiet okay?" Kendra nodded her head and watched her daddy walk off to hide. Sweet innocent little Kendra waited for 5 minutes before she peeked around the tree to see if her parents were coming but she was all alone. "Mr. Bunny I think we're going to win!" She exclaimed.
The smile was gone from Kendra's face as a shadow appeared over her. It didn't feel like her parents and the chuckle that came next wasn't familiar at all. Kendra turned and saw the visitor with the red eyes standing over her grinning. "How cute." Kendra stood up and held her bunny tight. "Where's my mommy and daddy?" The man laughed again and stepped closer "They aren't coming to get you kid now be a good girl and stay still." Kendra whimpered then started to run away. The man appeared in front of her as if it was magic and grabbed her arm. "Now I make this painful." Kendra screamed as the man threw her down and covered her mouth.
The man was smiling wide as if this was entertaining for him. Who would be happy killing a little girl? Kendra was frightened and tried to call for her parents but the man was too strong and muffled her words. Then as if instinct took over Kendra moved her face and bit down hard on the man's hand. The red eyed man yelled in agony as he backed up, clenching his hand tight. Kendra watched at the bitten hand started to deteriorate into ash before her very eyes. A whoosh went past her and Kendra was tossed up in the air. She started to scream and squirm but heard a comforting voice. "It's okay little one I won't hurt you it's okay."
Kendra stopped and looked at the stranger "Where's my mommy and daddy?!" The new stranger watched his friend snap the red man's eyes neck and burn the rest of his body. Kendra cried not getting how her parents could abandon her. "Hey it's okay now I'm here to take care of you, My name is Edward." Kendra looked at Edward and saw her eyes were like honey not at all like her attacker. "Edward I'm scared." Kendra cried. Edward kissed the girls forehead and rubbed her back. "I'll never let anything hurt you Kendra."
Never.
