"Name and business?"
"It's Erwin, Levi, something has happened."
"Come inside" Levi said, curious as to what the Commander needed, but didn't show through his uninterested tone in voice. Levi wasn't the expressive kind, he never was.
But he'd become partially numb, emotionally, after the deaths of Isabel and Furlan, and the disappearance of Aisling. On top of that, the stress of his position as captain wasn't helping, but he knew what he'd put himself into when accepting the spot.
Erwin opened the door, but he didn't walk in. He instead nudged his head in the direction which pointed to the end of the hallway and spoke,
"Would you mind coming with me, this should only take a minute."
Levi stood up, "If that's an order" He said, half seriously before following the Commander out his office to reach the end of the hallway.
"Care to enlighten me?" Levi asked, "Or must you make me follow you in silence?"
"One of our horses have been slaughtered." Erwin got straight to the point, leading them outside by training grounds close to the horse stables. They walked until the fresh smell of horse shit and hay had filled their senses.
But this time it wasn't just that. Another smell had accompanied them, and it was absolutely rotten.
Erwin stopped, barely lifting his arm to motion to the dead horse. Levi stared at it, taking in the appearance to see if any clues had been left on its remains.
"It looks thin." Levi commented, making Erwin turn away from the horse to look at Levi.
"That's due to the excessive blood lost." His eyes landed back on the horses corpse, "It's actually surprising how much blood it lost"
Erwin pointed to the small bite mark left on the horse,
"See that, just one bite from what looks to be a small animal. It makes you wonder what animal could be capable of this?"
Levi never thought he'd be even close the subject of vampires ever since he left the underground city to face the issue of the titans, but that one horse caused a chill to crawl up his spine.
A small bite mark just enough to drain all the horses blood couldn't be the work of any animal, but instead another beast that lives in the shadows. A vampire.
Levi had only ever dealt with one in his life, and he didn't plan on dealing with one again. His only knowledge on how to defeat one was what he was told by Aisling when she shared it with everyone the day she came back to face everyone after their awkward night.
"Erwin" Levi began, turning his entire body just to face the commander seriously, "Ever heard of vampires?"
"That child's tail? Who hasn't?" Erwin then raised one eyebrow suspiciously at Levi, "What is it that you're suggesting, Levi?"
"During my time in the underground city, I'd encountered one myself" He explained hesitantly, "They're very real, and that bite-mark on the horse looks identical to the one I saw on... someone."
