A Cat's Simple Journey

By: Hera Icia Ong

My name is Bea. I died when I was nineteen and four years later I was sent back to earth as an orange tabby cat. Yes, I know it's strange.

I lived or should I say I died to tell the life story of my younger sister named Sophie or better known as Zoe.

You must be wondering how I died. We'll I'll tell you. I died in a car accident with my boyfriend, Kirk. What happened? He was trying to avoid a bus that was going to hit us head-on, but instead we ended up falling into a cliff.

We were going to Baguio when it happened. Tragic? Not really. Our trip was a spur of the moment thing. Okay, not really. He asked me to run away with him. His parents didn't like me and my parents have already chose their future son in law since I was like... well conceived and I'm not kidding. I wish I was joking about this thing but I'm not

His name? Nate. Short for Nathan, Nathan something. Okay I know his last name but do I really have to tell you that? It's not necessary. Honestly he's not that bad. Actually, if Josh Hartnett had a twin brother well that would be him. Zoe, my younger sister, would trade places with me in a heartbeat. When I told my parents that I don't like Nate and pointed out for the nth time that I already have a loving boyfriend, my sister gladly presented herself to marry him.

Anyway Kirk couldn't stand the idea that my parents were setting up dates for Nate and me. So one night he picked me up and sort of kidnapped me. Okay so I willingly went with him, happy? We were planning to get married and the only thing that obviously stopped us is the fact that we both expired. When I said that we both expired well it's a better way to say that we died. So there you go, you can now play The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony

So I was walking at the beach and holding hands with him when an angel came up to us. Oh, have I mentioned that we're up here in heaven so seeing an angel is like... well normal. Yes, there is a beach in heaven! Not bragging but it's better than Boracay. Actually way better! Whitest sand and bluest ocean ever! I didn't mean to rhyme but you do get the picture, right?

God wanted to talk to us. Kirk and I both smiled at each other. We exactly knew what it was all about. The cliché for the dead people's "unfinished business. He wanted to sort things out.

His family, well as I've told you, they disliked me. Actually they hated my guts. Would you believe it? The delectable me! During the services, funeral I mean, rumors spread like fire. His family claimed that the whole running away thing was my idea and when the accident happened, we were having an argument and according to them, I was screaming at him. Yes, The blame was on me.

I was upset for a while, I mean Kirk's not the only one who died, hey! I died too. Their family was devastated like mine. He wanted my name to be cleared to his family. We're dead already and he's still standing up for me. Gosh, no words can explain how much I love him. Hearing him say that is more than enough. I mean I'm dead already, right? I couldn't care less what people on earth think of me. Still he insisted that it was something that he had to do. Never argue with the dead's unfinished business.

God both gave us a hug when we arrived. He was about to explain everything when another angel came up. The angel announced that they have arrived. I knew exactly what it meant. God's going to welcome who ever it is who died. Hmmm I wonder if it's somebody I knew and how he or she died. Before I said it out loud, He already answered my question. A seven-year-old boy tried to save his drowning sister. This is sort of depressing... they both died.

God apologized to us that he had to attend to these kids. I totally understand. I can still exactly remember the day Kirk and I arrived here. You see, the distress of realizing that you're actually dead because you've seen your motionless body lying on whatever it was when you passed away is quite unbearable.
