Hitsukarin - Can you keep a promise

Hitsukarin

( Authors Note- this takes place a bit after episode 316 )

"Taicho where are you headed out to?" Matsumoto questioned as her captain stood up from his desk in an attempt to leave. "I'm going to visit granny, see how she's doing" he replied "and don't forget to finish your pile of paperwork by the time I get back! I won't be long" "but taichooooo" Matsumoto wined in response to her taichos orders. Toshiro shut the door behind him leaving his fuku -taicho to get on with her assigned task.

When Hitsugaya arrived in the world of the living it was fairly bright. Brown and yellow leaves were scattered across the streets to compliment the autumn season. Toshiro knocked on the door of his granny's home and shortly after an old woman with a welcoming smile stood at the doorway. "Shiro-kun, how lovely to see you again what's brought you back to the world of the living?" She vocalised still smiling at her grandson. "I thought it would be nice to visit you again, see how you're doing" granny opened the door and signalled for Toshiro to come inside. She took his coat and hung it on the coat rack beside the front door before going to the kitchen to grab some snacks for her and Toshiro.

"I have some sweets for you dear" granny walked out of the kitchen with a tray of snacks for her and her grandson. "Thank you". They sat and talked for hours, catching up on everything and bonding like they used to. "I hope momo is doing alright too" granny piped, "she's getting better each day I'll send your regards to her when I get back" "That would be wonderful" she beamed with the same warming smile she used to greet toshiro at the door.

"What a coincidence that your girlfriend came round to see me yesterday and now you " Hitsugaya raised an eyebrow at his granny
"Karin is such a kind young girl, I'm glad you chose her" Toshiro almost choked on his sweets quickly replying to his grandma "me and kurosaki aren't dating" patting his chest as he spoke  "oh I'm sorry shiro-kun, I guess I shouldn't have assumed" Toshiro looked down as he fidgeted with his fingers "still it's nice of her to still visit you while I'm gone" Granny got up taking the sweets tray back to the kitchen.

"It's been nice catching up with you dear make sure to come back next time with Karin-chan" Toshiro simply nodded his head waving goodbye to granny. The weather started to get chilly and the sky was now more orange in colour. Toshiro wandered around karakura for a couple of hours before he finally  sat on a hill to view the sunset. He enjoyed sunsets in the world of the living, they were so bright and alluring.

"Toshiro, is that you?" A feminine voice caught his attention. Opening his eyes, he turned his head to see "Kurosaki?" He assumed "I told you to call me Karin, what brings you to the world of the living" Toshiro stood up as he spoke  "I came to visit granny but turns out she already had a visitor before me" karin flushed holding her cheeks in embarrassment "ah yeah sorry 'bout that I hadn't seen her in a while so I thought I'd check up on how she was doing"

"Don't apologise I'm glad you still visit her"
Karin grinned at his comment. "How long are you staying for anyway?" Karin questioned "Not long, I plan on leaving in a couple hours" Karin frowned "well why don't you hang out with me before you leave, I mean you don't have to but you know." She paused "it could be fun" Toshiro stopped for a moment to examine the time on his watch "As long as you don't mind I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a little fun before I leave" Karin let out a sigh "I'm glad you said yes, I was scared you were going to shut me down."

They walked and talked for what felt like hours. Karin would occasionally bring up her school life and how things were at home. Toshiro would quietly listen to the sheer excitement in her voice every time she brought up yuzus improvement in cooking. "I'm being serious, yuzu's cooking was always good but she just keeps on getting better and better" "I'm sure it's in the kurosaki blood" Toshiro replied. Karin stopped abruptly "Well, this is me. Thank you for walking me home Toshiro and tell your friend Rangiku I said hi" Toshiro paused to see they had arrived at the kurosaki clinic already.

Karin turned to walk inside just until Toshiro piped up "Something serious is gonna take place in soul society" Karin stopped at the door handle "Will ichi ni be okay?" Toshiro looked Karin in the eyes "Kurosaki is strong minded, and he's been training hard too" Karin grinned at his comment before unlocking the front door "so don't expect me to come back to the world of the living any time soon" Toshiro said matter of factly

"Can you promise me something?" Karin muttered as Toshiro remained silent "Can you promise to play a soccer match against me next time you visit?" Toshiros train of thought stoped as he looked up at Karin. A slight grin formed at the corners of his mouth before turning to leave "alright, I promise"  he stated "Good luck Toshiro".
