I fell to the closet floor burning handprints through the tile. I felt the change happening within me. I was stronger. The fire inside me was raging. I could feel, see and hear more intensely. What was I becoming? Why didn't Cye tell me? WHY COULDN'T I REMEMBER? I sat holding back the fire for what felt like hours even though it was only minutes. Standing up I faced my reflection in the mirror. I glistened light pink. My hair had turned completely white, my eyes a shimmering purple. I was perfection, no more scars, no flaws. My body was transformed into a work of magnificent art. I was trembling at my image. I heard a knock at my bedroom door, but I couldn't move.
"Lumi it's Cye, are you ok?"
I heard Cye open the door. I turned slowly still feeling the rage inside and walked to the entrance of the closet. Standing there with the light from the windows ascending on me my skin illuminated for Cye to see. I just stood glaring at him as he dropped the pink dozen roses in his hands. The look on his face was agonizing. He began to walk over to me.
"Lumi, I..."
"STOP!" holding out my hands in front of me I stopped time. I walked past Cye to the bar and poured myself a bourbon neat.
After one swig I pushed the air forward with both hands making time restart. Cye tripped and turned back to look at me with caution.
"I didn't know Lumi, you have to believe me. I ..."
"WHY WOULD I EVER BELIVE YOU NOW? LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I'M A MONSTER!"
"I didn't know, Lumi, I never wanted this for you. Is that what you think of me? A monster? Is it?"
"Lumi when I grabbed you at the rave all I saw was blood on your neck, you were barely coherent. I only saw my sister laughing. Lumi please look at me, you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You are magnificent. You are more illuminating than ever before. I swear I didn't know please believe me."
"We must kill Magla. I will never forgive her for doing this to me. My people will never see me as their own now Cye. I will be an outcast. Our child will never know my people because of your sister. They will see me as the devil Cye."
I downed the rest of my drink and threw the glass across the room. Cye took advantage of that time to run to me wrapping his arms around me. He pressed me close to his body holding me tightly.
"I love you, Lumi. I swear I didn't know. Please believe me."
His words cut a wound in my heart. Cye Bian loved me, the truth was I loved him too. I hated that I loved him I hated that I was dragged into this situation. There was just something about him that made me feel safe, like home. I knew If I was going to get through this, I needed him. I slowly wrapped my arms around him and let out a deep sigh into his chest. His head rested on top of mine.
"You will be the death of me Cye Bian."
We both knew it was true. If we both made it through this, it would be a miracle. Cye pulled me closer he didn't need to talk at this point he just needed to hold me. I was content with that.
"Are you ready for our date?"
"Are you serious? Everyone in your home will be staring at me Cye."
"No, they will fear you, Lumi. You are the great Goddess of fire who now inhabits all of Amura's power as well. You will never be like me, a Daywalker. You will be more. Our child will be more. You will also be my wife."
He leaned me back to see my face and pulled out a heart shape three carat pink diamond ring. His timing was impeccable. I would have gone to the moon if Cye asked me to, he had my entire heart. He proceeded to get down on one knee still holding the box open. He took my hand looking deep into my eyes.
"Lumi Rose will do me the honor of being my wife. We will live out our years together making each other happy. I promise to love you each second of everyday. We will watch our children grow and save humanity together. We will make peace together. I can't be without you; you are my world. I want each sunset and sunrise to be your eyes. I have walked the earth so long in search of you. As Frida once said to Diego, I want to be inside your darkest everything."
I saw a man in front of me not a monster I once saw before. I saw a simple man who loved me. A man who loved me for me and all my flaws.
"Ok. Yes, Cye. I will marry you."
He placed the ring on my finger and swept I me up into his arms. When he sat me back down, I held my hand out in front of me and looked at the beautiful pink stone. I noticed my skin was not shining anymore. I glanced in the mirror above the bar. My hair was back to blonde and pink, but my skin was still flawless I just didn't "sparkle" like the python. It was the ring.
"What's happening? Why have I changed back?"
"I, I, don't know. I had my jewelers get me that rarest diamond they could find. It does come from the Amazon." Cye said perplexed.
"It disguises me. No one will ever know. This is wonderful!"
"Yes. Lumi just know I love you either way. I..."
"SHHHH this is perfect Cye."
I placed my lips on his grabbing two fists full of his hair. I never felt so alive in all my life.
