“You’ll be okay,” Gabriele, Harper’s cousin, said. “Besides, I’ll be there with you. I’m sure you’ll meet new people right away.”
She had arrived three hours ago in the Hernandez household, and the whole unpacking thing already made her very stressed. She had brought four big suitcases from her house to here, and everything felt so overwhelming. The new house and new family she was given, was already enough to feel all the anxiety hiding inside her. But she knew this new environment was well needed.
“Do you really think I’ll fit in?” Harper asked while staring at her reflection on the mirror. She was wearing a long brown maxi skirt, paired with a black long-sleeved shirt. Her dangling earrings that were shaped like a flower were already enough to make her standout, and the three necklaces around her neck made her more anxious.
“Are you seriously worrying about your outfits?”
“No. I don’t worry about that.” Harper sighed. “I’m just worried about, you know, people”
With that, Gabriele stood up and walked towards her. She then wrapped her arms around Harper’s hips and embraced her gently.
“You’ll be fine.” She said once more. “Look at me. If they can accept someone who likes and dates girls, then, they will certainly accept you, Harper.”
Harper could only sigh.
