You tip your foot in front of a door frame, letting
a little boy falls into your mittened hand. You click your tongue before adjusting another kid's hat. He hadn't finished counting, Max huffs. He and the other kids were playing a Game of hide and seek, he always cheated- tried to. They all continued the game.Y/n didn't expect her new earth life to be a local sister. But the busyness in her life kept her occupied. And she got to serve the children of the neighborhood, who in her eyes were little gods in the makings. In a week most kids were put together, brushing their teeth thrice a day. And you hadn't even said a word.
Something happened. Something had scared them so bad they couldn't muster a word. Though they had begun downloading a new language of sign- the kids just didn't know it.
You heard the ring of the doorbell and made a turn. Instead, a man burst in, holding his side. Y/n stomps her foot on the first stair, They all rush up the stairs, except little Max. Again. "He's gonna hurt you!" he pleaded. Bucky, who had just been shot twice blinked at his words, as his eyes focused on the figure dusting off the boy.
When he saw her, really saw her. Looking way too neat for someone who practically ran the place. Her hair matched the description, messy- but as cute as any of the kids who resided there. As you pointed off the boy he found your face. A million thoughts went through his mind, who was protecting you? Why wasn't anyone protecting you? Why couldn't it be him?
Y/n turned to the bleeding man, snapping her fingers, and leaning him onto the couch. You were testing his senses, before leading down to his chest. In a small burst of light, he was shirtless. You tapped his head.
Any other day he would have grabbed that hand and pulled it away. Any other day didn't involve 2 bullet holes, or a girl as attractive as you. Maybe that's why he didn't do it, or why he didn't question how you did what you did.
Bucky opens his eyes, to the smell of waffles. He looked around the room, he was tucked in a bed. A remote was laid next to him with a cup of water. The fact you were responsible for this made his cheeks glow. As he pulls the blankets off, he sees his chest completely normal, no scarring, no nothing. His shirt was missing on the other hand. Bucky stands up, looking around the neat room, even a humidifier was in there. He didn't have a single episode when he slept.
So the woman he was crushing on was- magic? Easily one of the big 3. The question was which one? You looked normal, besides your strikingly white hair. He assumed you dyed it, but it made you look like a goddess to him. It unlocked a setting he didn't even know was there. He cracks the door, peeking at the kids all rushing down the stairs.
One was holding a cat. She didn't notice the peeking soldier but her furry friend did. Its eyes went wide. Ironically scaring Bucky into a gulp, before he stepped out. He wanders down the stairs, looking at the framed photos. None of them included you.
If you lived with him his walls would be full of pictures of you. Your anniversary, your wedding, Christmas. He stops himself there and continues down the polished wooden steps, following the sweet scent from before. With a turn, he saw a large table, full of kids from the halls and scarfing down their waffles. 'Slow down' Y/n signs. You fix the messy boy's hair and grab a tray from behind you.
It was a plate full of waffles, and berries. Accompanied by a glass of orange juice. Some kids yelled quick thanks for the food while other's mouths were too full to say so. Bucky stood there in awe of the scene, the homely life he had wanted so long ago. He follows your figure until you lay eyes on him. You place the food on the table, where an empty seat laid.
Your mind sputters for a moment, unsure how to communicate what you wanted. Bucky looks to the seat, for the first time ever being a Hydra spy comes in handy. 'Thank you' He signs. He saw the desperate look in your eyes and sat. He recognized the boy next to him. "I don't trust you! I bet you killed your shirt! And your arm!" Max says, shoving another strawberry down his throat. Y/n's hands sign Love. You place a gloved hand on top of the boy's own, before handing a girl a new cup. So you could hear, that left you either being mute or hard of hearing, Bucky began to speculate what exactly was your dilemma.
This shut him up, "Yes! Y/n!" He went back to his meal with a smile. Bucky oddly felt jealous of the boy. 'Love'? You called him Love, in the sweetest tone he had ever heard, not heard. Maybe one day you'd sign to him the same. His eyes darted to the waffles. "Thank you.." He finally got out a word. Y/n looks up, 'It is my duty.' you sign.
That was a strange thing to say.As fast as the kids were here, they were off. You inch the same glaring boy out of the room. The next minute you turn to the soldier sitting behind you. 'Please don't report me, I just need to find someone to look after them before you do it.'
You had looked so ashamed, it broke the metal man's heart. "No, nono- I'm not going to report you-" He shakes his head. Y/n stands straighter, almost in confusion."How did you do this-heal me."Bucky points to his now spotless side. They look to the side, before snapping their fingers. A light engulfed you, showing your true form. Symbols neatly littered your arms and cheek- white eyes, and a deep crack down your face. As if someone had cracked their favorite porcelain. His favorite porcelain.
'I'm not from here. I ran away from my homeworld. And found this- this place. These sparks of life.' You sign, your pace has quickened. Alien. 'I am sorry'
"No- don't be. I get it. You're safe here. I promise." Y/n smiles lightly, shimmering back to their human disguise.A scar replacing their cracks. "No one will find you," Bucky adds, his protective bear gears were most definitely kicking in. 'Thank you. What should I call you?'
"Uh, James- Bucky. Call me Bucky."
'I am in your debt, Bucky. Do you need your room for a few more days? It is always open. Maybe the kids would like someone to talk to.'
Your eyes falter for a moment, "Thanks- but I'm not sure I can stand up to the way they see you, doll." Doll, he had said it. Now to see if he'd regret it. A light pink grew on your cheeks, maybe he did still have it.Maybe he could stay a while. It wouldn't hurt to leave Sam hanging a little, would it?
