Today in school, it is job's day. It's a new thing at my school, we start thinking about job ideas for when we are older. Yes, we did it in junior school but it wasn't silly and babyish like that. We have to do research about local work placements as work experience is at the end of the year, we have to think of multiple different job ideas so we have backups. It's not like junior school when we did little scribbly drawings and dressed up, it's much more serious. I wasn't really looking forward to it but knew I had to face thinking about my future. Isabelle was excited as she was going on a school trip to a museum and to Smiley Fries afterwards, the best fast food restaurant ever! I was so jealous as the museum was outside of town which meant a longer bus journey. I love bus journeys! Instead, I had to sit thinking about my future and learning about future jobs which is very boring indeed. I do wish I was in Isabelle's shoes sometimes, enjoying myself in junior school. I was finishing getting dressed when mum shouted up to me from the bottom of the stairs. 'You've got guests!' I finished getting ready and clipped a loose hair in place and ran down the stairs. The way mum shouted, you would think the Queen or directors for a Hollywood movie were standing right behind the door, waiting for me to be the next big star or for me to take the throne. I was happy though as my friends were there waiting for me. Usually, Ella or May or both of them knock for me to walk with them but today more of my friends were there! Ella, May, Harri, Reece and Bob were all standing on my doorstep waiting. I quickly and eagerly rushed out, almost forgetting my school bag and had to go back inside to grab it!The sky was bright blue, the sun was shining, yes, sounds like a typical overused beginning of a story, however, it felt like I was in imaginary land and woke up and hit my head. I got all jolly when my friends came to the door and almost forgot about job day. I felt for a moment as if we were going on a school trip, I was daydreaming worse than Bob! My bubble soon burst when we were walking to school and everyone began discussing job day. 'It's not that bad Tash, you would think we were heading into a nightmare!' Ella said playfully, teasing me as she knows I can be quite negative sometimes. 'I know what I want to do, I don't need a job's day.' May stated, almost showing off. May was sure in imaginary land too, she wanted to be one of the world's biggest fashion designers, even at fourteen-years-old. She almost sounded like an overly ambitious five-year-old when discussing her future plans, once you get May talking about her future plans, she can't stop! You hear all about her future actor husband, her hot pink car with no roof, her mansion, her huge swimming pool with dolphins in, it's like listening to a small child writing a story! She was about to start discussing her future job but luckily Ella started speaking before she could. 'I would like to be an actress, obviously I have backup plans but it's really something that I want to do.' Ella stated and started acting random lines out from plays to entertain us, whilst we were walking into school. Ella even made her own play and often reciates parts and lines from it! Whitney and her friends were unfortunately walking in school at the same time as us, which we all equally hated. They were in front of us talking loudly and showing off. 'I can't be bothered with school today, I don't want to work anyway.' Penelope said immaturely. 'I want to be a hairdresser.' Angel said, more sensibly but then I heard Whitney's loud mouth bellowing over the other girls. 'There's lots of things that I would like to do. Every job place would want me! She said, loudly and proudly, her massive ego shining clearly through. We didn't have a tutor today, we had to go in a big room, our year group was divided in half into two large groups. Luckily we were all together, even Kody was with us, but unfortunately Whitney and her friends also were. We headed up the stairs and I suddenly began to feel grown up. It was my huge imagination again, it felt as if we were all heading to work together! I don't know where on earth we would all work together but that's what it felt like, the cool air surrounding us as we walked to our new workplace, it felt like we were in slow motion, looking cool and standing out from the crowd. Hey, we could all have our own shared business! If people knew how wide my imagination was, I would get teased endlessly, especially by Whitney, I wouldn't hear the end of it! We headed into the classroom and all ran to the back table. We were in one of the two biggest classrooms in the school, they were used for shared classes, presentations and sometimes teacher meetings even! Surprisingly, this classroom wasn't dull at all. There were posters, displays and decorations everywhere, it felt almost like we were in junior school again. Multiple teachers were in the room but we didn't know any of them, some of them were guests from outside of school. They introduced themselves and handed us all a tablet device each. They had large 12 inch screens and silver glass backs with a star logo that was in a darker shade of silver. I just wanted to slide one into my bag and take it home! I wasn't a thief and wasn't going to actually take it, I was only kidding! They are branded tablets called Startabs. There's another brand of tablets called Swirltabs but they aren't as popular or as expensive. Startabs are extremely popular and expensive, sometimes costing almost a thousand pounds! May has one in hot pink, it's so cool looking, I've always secretly envied her. Whitney and her friends were messing around, taking silly selfies on the tablets, which I thought was pointless as it isn't like they will ever see the photos again.
'Please log into the tablets with your school details and then start researching a job you may be interested in, look at places in your area, forums, videos and types of media relating to your chosen job.' A guest woman with blonde hair explained. 'We'll come around the room and try and talk to each of you.' said a guest man who was bald, and we all began researching. 'I know what I am searching for.' May boasted and got distracted by looking at clothes and online clothing stores. Ella was a bit confused as she didn't know how to start. 'What am I supposed to look for? Acting jobs?' she laughed. Harri started researching aquariums as he really wanted to work with sea creatures and fish, possibly working in an aquarium or a marine biologist, Reece was just sitting staring at the tablet confused and Bob was staring at the posters on the wall, daydreaming. I had ideas of jobs I wanted to do but didn't know if I would be any good at them, the future worried me greatly. The main job I am considering is a teacher. I don't think I would like to teach in a secondary school, I don't think I'd like to teach any teenagers like Whitney or Henry! I think I would like to teach in a junior school, or possibly even helping children who have extra needs, I feel like I'd be good at that as I am very understanding and kind, or at least most of the time! I began researching it and there were a lot of junior schools in the area, too many to count in fact! I also had an author job in mind too. I had always loved writing and I would like to write my own books for children to read and enjoy. I could even be an artist as I am quite good at painting and drawing, not to boast though as I am modest. One of our school teachers entered the room. I've always seen her but I've never known her name, I always say 'The teacher with the glasses.' even if that does sound a bit rude. She announced that if we didn't have too many behaviour points we could go out for lunch! That means we can go off site and go to the local shops or cafes for our lunch instead of the canteen. I've always loved school lunches and sitting in the canteen but thought a change of scenery would be a good thing. None of us had a lot of behaviour points and all agreed to go to a local cafe when at lunchtime, we all had money to buy lunch too which was even better.
The guest speakers started telling us about different job opportunities including work experience in the theatre, Ella soon perched up and listened eagerly and one of the guests came to talk to her. The guest bald man came up to me and asked me about my plans. I told him I might like to be a teacher. 'It's not easy you know, it's very tiring, I used to be a full-time classroom teacher myself.' He said and chuckled. 'That's what you all say!' Ella laughed and on a serious note, he started talking to me about work experience and jobs and tasks that I would probably do whilst doing my work experience in a school. I saw Whitney suddenly perch up, almost like a meerkat and was staring right into my soul from the other side of the room, she glared at me in an evil way and I just looked away. What on earth did I do that pushed her buttons?! I ignored her and continued to listen to the guest man. He then wandered over to May and we had to listen to her tell him all her plans about being a fashion designer. 'It doesn't just happen overnight, you need to be realistic.' He said but laughed in a friendly manner afterwards. He then asked her if she had any other plans. That would have hopefully burst her bubble but May still continued to go on about it. He told her to look at fashion design courses for when she goes to college but was struggling to give her any work experience advice. 'What are you going to do? Fly to America and be a fashion designer next week?' Henry teased, turning around to look at May and grinned nastily. I didn't even realise he was sitting nearby. He then turned to Harri. 'What are you going to do, boy, eh?! swim with dolphins?!' His silly mates laughed with him childishly. He then turned to Ella. 'Ooh the soap operas are on tonight, might see you acting in it, I'd tell my mum to turn it off if you were in it.' He said in a nasty, horrible way. Ella stood up quickly but May calmed her and told her to sit down. Luckily he didn't say anything to me, what could he possibly say? I had smart, realistic ideas and he couldn't possibly joke about that. He looked me up and down though. 'What about you Tash?' He spat, his cruel brown eyes kept looking up and down, his mouth sloping downwards with a few of his teeth showing. 'I'm not sure yet.' I lied and he just tutted and turned back around. What's he going to do? Be a professional bully? I laughed when the bald man walked up to him. 'What about you young man? Winding up girls, is that going to be your job?' he said laughing, to Henry's embarrassment. 'Hey I'm not a girl!" Harri said laughing and we all ended up laughing together. Henry glared at us all and turned back around and started using his phone. I saw Whitney using her phone too, I bet they were texting each other, her and Henry. They should get together those two, they'd be the perfect couple. They're both nosey, spiteful, rude, mean, horrible, sly, manipulative, the list goes on and on.
