I shook the glass shards off of my clothes, anger and frustration boiling inside me, as I climbed out of the store and headed down the street, towards the intersection. I was 100% sure I knew, where the person was going, and I had to get there before he did. I had to be faster than him, if I wanted to catch him.
If I were to have an archnemesis in this place, then he'd definitely be one. He was, by far, the most annyoing and frustrating person I've met in the entire Razor City, and -as far as I could tell- he propably wasn't even from here.
Everyone here knew him by his alter ego, King Chaos, but I knew him by his name; Morgan Black.
To be honest, he also knew me by my name aswell. Why wouldn't he know, it's not like this is our first time clashing together.
The cop car was still on the same spot, but now one of the officers was standing outside, glancing from me to the shattered window, and then back. "What happened?!" He shouted, but I didn't want to stop and explain to him, so I just ran past and crossed the street illegally, pretty much breaking a lot of traffic laws, but it didn't matter now.
The red flash appeared again, soaring recklessly between the street and the skyscrapers, as if teasing me to follow it, as if mocking me for being too slow, before disappearing into a dark alley between two buildings. There I could finally catch him, I thought to myself. I crossed another road again and switched to the other side until I reached the alley. I only stopped to catch my breath, before walking into the dark, messy pit.
Let's just say, my city has some problems. Every city has, not anything is completely perfect and all that, but my city has a bit bad habit of dumping all kinds of useless trash and stuff into these alleys, such as empty cardboard boxes, metal wires, car tires, metal sheets, tincans of various sizes and so on. So, it wasn't perfect, but that's how things were around here.
Some of these alleys were even closed off with metal wire fences to prevent any unwanted visitors entering them, but I don't think it was that neseccary, I mean, nobody ever comes here anyway, so what's the point?
Either way, I was here now, and this place seemed... empty. Like there was nobody here. Maybe Morgan wasn't here either, and I'd just looked wrong when I saw him turning here. I was just about to turn and leave, when a loud, metallic sound caught my attention, coming from the back of the alley. I couldn't see anything or anyone, but I decided to be more careful, just in case.
I peered into the darkness at the back of the alley, only barely keeping myself from running away when I saw shadows playing on the walls from the corner of my eye. Fear gutted me, but I tried to not show it; I knew bad guys would take advantage of it.
Another sound sent chills down my spine, as it crept closer and closer, and I could only imagine the villain I'd chased after stalking me from the darkness, quietly sneaking his way to attack me when I'm not paying attention.
The source of the unnerving sound came closer and closer and closer and my imagination was running wild with whatever horrific scenario could follow next...
A round, empty tincan rolled out of the darkness and stopped right in front of me. I sighed in relief, an empty tincan could have no way of hurting me. I suppose I worried for nothing, and the villain wasn't here at all, and I could just leave-
Morgan leaped out of the shadows, knocking me on the ground, instantly taking me by surprise and giving me no time to dodge him. We both crashed on the pavement, but before I could react he was already up and coming towards me, throwing the tincan into a wall with one quick sweep of his hand.
I got up on my feet so I can face him better, electricity rippling through my hands and up my arms. Morgan stared at me through his mask, which did cover his eyes, but that piercing glare was enough to send shivers down my spine, with dark hair framing his face. His black and green suit was almost untouched from his chest to his boots, and his long, black cape billowed behind him.
"Well, well. You've finally caught me," he taunted, as he sauntered closer to me, the annoyingly ̶a̶̶t̶̶t̶̶r̶̶a̶̶c̶̶t̶̶i̶̶v̶̶e̶ stupid grin on his face.
"Yes. I have. And you'll be arrested pretty soon too. In any minute the police will be here, and they'll put you in prison." I replied, trying to keep a serious tone, as he leaned in uncomfortably close. "Me? In prison? Just for a little thing like that?" He asked softly, and I clenched my fists, trying my hardest to keep from blushing.
"Yeah, you. You know that was illegal, and you will pay for it."
"You'll miss me if I was in prison," He purred, tilting his head, and he was right. But I will never admit that, not to him. "Well? Are we going to fight, or are you gonna let me off the hook like last time?"
"Fighting crime is what I've signed up for in here. But, if you agree to just get arrested nicely, then there is no reason for us to fight."
"'Signed up for.' Well, if that's the case, then we absolutely should fight. And if I win, then you'll let me go this time aswell. And if you win, then I suppose I'd have to get arrested and go to prison. But! With one condition," Morgan told me, circling around until stopping right next to me again.
"And what's that?" I asked, growing more and more frustrated.
"You'll have to come see me in prison. I'll make sure to come up with something nice while I'm in there." He replied with a smile.
"Don't think I'll come to see you there, I- I won't even bother! I won't miss you even if you were gone." I lied, and deep down I knew he saw right through my words. I almost expected him to smile again, and he did, but now it had a mean undertone.
"Oh, what a shame." He said, as he put his hands together, cracking his knuckles. All the frustration and nervousness inside me switched into preparing for battle, and as I stared at him, eyes burning, I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. Morgan looked back to me, his eyes turning dark.
The shadows started playing on the walls again, now jumping right before my eyes and flying across my vision in shifting shapes, circling around as if mocking me and I tried shooing them away, when Morgans' quick punch landed on my face.
Sharp, aching pain spread over my face as I stumbled backwards, frantically searching for him from amidst all the shadows and the dizziness. The silhouettes kept swirling around me, my frustration and anger growing even higher, as I kept swinging my fists at them, electricity rippling and striking at anything around me.
Morgan was nowhere to be seen; maybe he'd taken this time to escape. I couldn't hear anything else but my electricity and exhausted breathing, focusing on nothing else but the shapes in front of me, while keeping my pace, trying to stay balanced...
And then someone tripped me on the cold, hard ground, again. Breath escaped my lungs, when I slammed on the concrete, the shadows disappearing as Morgans' boot appeared on my chest. I glared up to him, as he smiled smugly at me, and I knew even without him saying, that I'd lost.
"Seems like I'll be getting off the hook this time aswell." He said with the same smirk again, and I couldn't say or do anything else about it, as I tried to regain my breath.
