The warm sun, the nice summer breeze and the birds chirping in the high trees. I can remember it all too well , as if it were yesterday.

At the age of 10 my parents introduced me to this boy around my age, his name is Ethan Farewell. He has blonde hair, emerald green eyes and I swear I can see my own reflection when I look into them. They are the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen. Mine are a boring burgundy red, they tend to scare people away but not Ethan, he endorse my eyes, he said he'd never seen eyes like mine before, so which they make me unique.

Today is Monday, June 28th 1804, and I came running down the stairs and out door I could hear my mother shouting my name but I didn't bother listening. I ran to the near river and Ethan had beaten me there, I was so out of breath and processed to say,

"That's not fair Ethan, you left before I did!"

Ethan looked at me and laughed, "Just leave earlier next time"

When he finished talking his huge smile looked so beautiful next to the rising sun. We stayed at the river all day, now the sun was starting to set but we did so many amazing things, such as, catch frogs, jump on rocks and even went swimming. Time goes by so fast when you're having fun. As we were making our way back Ethan dared me to a challenge.

"The first one to reach miss, clocksmiths owes the other a fresh baked bread.

"Oh you're on!" I respond positioning myself in a running form.

On the count of three we both start sprinting with all our might, but Ethan got there first. He is quite a fast runner, if I say so myself. Every time we do races I always end up losing.

"Now you owe me a fresh bread from miss, clocksmith!"

I sigh "yes, yes I know, I will bring it to you tomorrow"

This is where me and Ethan split up. He lives with his uncle, Arthur and I live with both my parents. I try asking Ethan what happened to his parents but every time I mention it, he doesn't respond, which is understandable I wouldn't want to talk about my parents death either. When I saw my house from a distance I could see Mother waiting at the door for me, she always does that but I don't mind. As I get closer I could smell something delicious, I couldn't wait to get inside and stuff my mouth full!

The birds were chirping so loud the next morning.

"Rise and shine sweetheart" said Mother while stroking my hair.

I didn't have the energy to respond to her, I was too tired. After all that running me and Ethan did yesterday, I just wanted 5 more minutes of sleep. Mother smiled and I could hear her footsteps getting further and further away, which usually means she'll let me sleep for a couple more minutes. I had the best dream, it was me and Ethan playing by the river with the most beautiful sky I've ever seen. The sun was so bright it was making Ethan's eyes shine even brighter. I really like Ethan, he is my best friend! Sometimes my heart will be beat uncontrollably fast around him, I'm not sure why. It may just be because I like him so much.
I could feel something sticky sliding down my forehead, this smell, it smells very familiar. It's syrup. I slowly open my eyes to see Mother with a grin on her face while she pours maple syrup onto my face.

"Syrup!!!" I exclaimed bouncing out of bed.

Now I am all sticky.

"Now, you don't want to be late to see the soldiers walk" Mother states.

Oh shoot! I totally forgot that was today, me and Ethan were supposed to go watch them together! I really want to become a soldier when I grow up, it's always been a big dream of mine. Fighting off the bad guys and looking like a hero, who wouldn't want to become a soldier?
I quickly make my way to the bathroom to wash off the syrup dripping from my forehead. When all the stickiness wears off I sprint my way downstairs.

Father stops me before I make my way out the door. "Hey kiddo not so fast, you need to put on your cloak"

"But dad!! Ethan is waiting for me!"

"No buts, not with those big old horns of yours sticking outta your head. You wouldn't want people to see you with those, now would you?" Says Father as he hands me my cloak.

"Yes Father"

I quickly put on my cloak and was ready to sprint out the door, I was so excited I was bouncing in place. When Father was done putting on his shoes we made our way out the door, I was too excited for my own good and started running half way. Mother didn't like coming to see the soldiers and whenever I asked why, she fell silent. So I don't ask her why she doesn't come anymore. In the distance I could see Ethan and his uncle.

"Ethan!!!" I shout waving both my arms in the air.

"Zenix hurry!! You're late!" Ethan shouts back giving me hand signals.

I couldn't help myself and ran faster towards Ethan, standing beside him watching as the soldiers walked on by. I couldn't hear anything that was going on because of how much I was panting but I didn't care since the view was astonishing. I couldn't help but think to myself, when I grow up, I want to become a soldier.
