I ran past the bushes, leaves rustling around my feet, fireflies dodging my flying hair, just to catch a glimpse of a fortune (bringing) shooting star on the western cliff. Although the cliff extended half a kilometre from the woods, it still managed to leave a wide gap between itself and the unknown side. Not a single soul has seen any sign of land or life as the thick fog veiled any clue. It remains unexplored, and forgotten as people of Leah have other important things to focus on...
I reached my destination, panting hardly and searching the sky for any moving star. Honestly speaking, if at least half the people of Leah were able to spot the shooting star, the entire half of the people would live in luxury. This was a myth believed by every single citizen above the age of 3 years, and it was true. Everyone believed in it. I believed in it. But in reality, only two people have been that lucky to see the spark. Not even the actual star, just the light trailing it, and their lives changed overnight. I have made up my mind to spot the shooting star among countless others in the vast ocean of stars, and I could already feel my eyes hurting due to my constant squinting. The worst part of it was that I would be waiting there till sunrise, without even realising that the star must have already shot past with it's immense speed.
The dark blue sky with a tinge of violetfilled with big twinkling stars sang me a lullaby to which I slept unknowingly.
I woke up with a loud gasp when a bucket of water was thrown at me.
"Akila! What did ya skip work for last night?" Yelled my tavern manager with alcohol breath. I could hear the loud clatter of plates and clanks of glasses and realised, that I was at the shed next to the tavern, laying on the cold floor.
