"Dustin, can you hear me? Wheeler?" Eddie's voice said through Dustin's super walkie-talkie"

Dustin hurriedly grabbed the thing better and pushed the button, putting the device closer to his mouth. "Eddie, holy shit, are you okay?"

"Nah, man. Pretty... Pretty goddamn far from okay!" He replied shakily.

"Where is he?" questioned robin, walking away from Ann, and closer to Dustin.

"Where are you?" the boy echoed what robin had said seconds prior.

"Skull Rock. Do you know it?" the now fugitive answered

"Yeah, it's near uh Cornwallis and-" Dustin tried to answer, but Steve walked past them, cutting Dustin off.

"Garret, yeah. I know where that is." He said, not looking at their group, making a beeline for the woods.

Ann stared at Lover's Lake behind them as she walked away with the group.

"Ann? You okay?" asked max softly

Ann slowly peeled her eyes away from the water and blinked a couple of times, glancing back at max, who had slowed down so she could stay near Ann.

"Yeah. I think I'm just shocked still about just, everything that's happened." She returned to the concerned redhead. "He's a good guy. He doesn't deserve everything that's going on right now."

"You really love him, don't you?" asked max, twirling the cord of her Walkman.

"You want to know something funny?" Ann breathed out, "At first it was all pretend. A series of events happened, and I needed someone to act as my boyfriend, and Eddie ended up being that person."

"So, that wasn't just a rumour, that it's all for pretend?" Max let out, eyebrows rising as they trailed behind the group.

"At first it was, so some of that is true, but something shifted down the line. And it didn't feel so fake. Well, to me, at least." Ann answered the girl. "I got to know him better and as I spent time with him, I think at some point, I just started liking him. A lot."

"Just like? I'm sorry but you've literally joined a monster hunting group of people who are saving me, Hawkins and maybe even the world." Max stated, eyeing Ann. "that sounds more like love to me, who's willing to do that for someone they 'just like a lot?' you're totally and hopelessly in love girl."

Ann tried to retort, but Steve and Dustin bickering loudly at the front caught her attention.

"Dude, I'm telling you, you're taking us the wrong way." Steve said, looking at his surroundings.

"It's north. I'm positive. I checked the map." Dustin deadpanned, waving his map in Steve's face.

"You do realize Skull Rock is a super popular make-out spot?" Steve asked the teen as they walked side by side, Dustin looking at his compass.

"Yeah, so?" Dustin retorted.

"Yeah, well, it wasn't popular until I made it popular. All right?" Steve said, pointing to himself as he leaned slightly towards the teen. "I practically invented it. We're heading in the wrong direction."

"Steve. Where are you going? Steveeee" whined Dustin as he watched the older boy walk away from the path the map was saying they had to take.

"Stop whining, Let's go. Trust me." He yelled back, ducking under a tree branch.

"Okay, so apparently, we're going this way, now?" Max exhaled, walking a bit faster to catch up to the rest of the people. "I swear to god, if they get us lost."

Ann watched as she slowed down next to Lucas and started talking to him. The two stopped and Ann walked past them quickly, not trying to interrupt the moment they were having.

"Why am I the only one who doesn't have a walking buddy. Lucas and Max, Robin and Nancy, Steve and Dustin." Ann whispered to herself as she kicked a random pebble that stuck out from the leafy ground. "Ann and no one."
