I can't breathe anymore. My legs losing all the power that they have. If I can't make it on time I'll get fired, that's for sure. Do you know how hard it is to be fashionable and on time at the same time?
Oh yeah, sorry. I'm Chiara, I'm a fashion consultant in NYC. I might not be working in one of the best offices yet but it'll come soon. I can feel it. I'm 23, which makes me one of the youngest person in the office. All you have to know about me is that I adore my job and the only thing I want to do in my free time is reading. In the rush of NYC, I can't find a lot of time but I try.
And especially in this job it's pretty hard to have free time. Trust me even sleeping is a luxurious thing for us.
''You're late...'' my boss tells me the second I pass his office, while rolling his eyes.
''Only 6 minutes'' I say as I pass. We have a different relationship. Don't get me wrong, it's just two adults making jokes with respect.
Anyways where was I, oh yeah... I was saying I have barely time for everything because in this job you can get a call anytime of the day. I mean anytime.
After an extremely tired day I prepare to leave my office. My boss, Jeremy Lane knocks on my door and says;
''Can I come in?''
''Mr. Lane of course. What can I do for you?''
''As you know new designers and clients are coming tomorrow for an early meeting. And I want you to join us. I expect you at 7 am.''
Well that's 2 hours before my shift starts but he's the boss so what can I say.
''Yes of course, no problem. If there isn't anything else can I leave?''
''Of course, have a great night.''
I leave the office as soon as he gets out. We were preparing for this meeting for weeks now. And I'm actually so excited to be in it. I step in my old chevy car and hit the road. I can't wait to go home and rest.
I enter the building and see the ''out of order'' sign on the elevator. I resist a scream at this point because my apartment is in 6th floor. I can do this, I mean why can't I?
When I finally reach my door I'm out of breath for the second time today. I start to take off my coat and shoes, while I hear a knock on the door.
The second I open the door someone rushes in with frustration. And that someone is my best friend Grace. We've known each other since our high school years. Right after we met, we've become inseparable. She's one year older than me and one of the greatest lawyers that I know. She can save your ass from any possible issue.
''You're not gonna believe who texted me ..... Julian!''
''Which one was he?'' I giggle while she throws me one of the pillows on my couch.
''Ok, ok! What did he said?''
''That he wants to meet up tonight at The Mist. You know, the popular bar that everyone's talking about lately.''
''Yeah I know the place. Then why are you here, you should get ready.''
''Ok so don't get mad at me, but .... It's going to be a double date. His brother will be joining us.''
''Who's the lucky lady?'' I ask when she smiles apologetically. I see where this is going.
''She's one of the most gorgeous women in this whole world. You!''
''You know that complimenting me won't work right. Firstly I don't even know his brother, secondly I have a meeting early in the morning tomorrow. So it's a solid no from me.''
