I planned on doing her a best-of collection of some moments of her life from the day she was born until now. This is something we usually do when someone turns eighteen, but after a whole year away from her, I just wanted to make her a meaningful gift.
This last week, I spent a lot of hours on my computer, searching for old videos of her on the family hard drives. And after another couples of hours eyes glued on my laptop, I was actually glad to have begun the gift months before the due date. After a well-deserved break, I was back at my desk, sitting in an improperly position, as usual. My research of memories could begin again.
A while after, my hand was now moving automatically on the touchpad, and I wasn't paying great attention to the folders I clicked on anymore. It was only when I saw Joy's face on vids' thumbnails that I refocused on the screen and searched for the folder's date. July 14th of 2015. I felt my heart aching a little but I decided to watch the first video anyway. And as soon as I pressed the play button, the memory came back in my head, as clear as if it was yesterday.

It was a hot summer day. So hot that we couldn't even put a foot outside. The pool's water was at least at the same temperature as a jacuzzi. That was why Rose Cameron, had forbidden us to set foot outside while I was at her house. As well as being our neighbors, Ward and Rose Cameron were also good friends of my parents. The result of it was their children hanging out together very often. And in this July 14th, we had decided to hang at Tanneyhill, where the air conditioning was working in all the big mansion, unlike Hollow Creek, where ours had broken three days before.
Sarah and I had spent a good part of the afternoon slumped on the couch of the living room, watching The Office for the hundredth time. But this day, even Michael Scott and his employees weren't able to get us out of our boredom. After the end of our seventh episode, Sarah turned off the TV and sat straighter on the couch. I raised my head at her and sent her an interrogative look.
"I know what we can do!" She declared, with a grin on her face. "Let's play hide and seek!"
"Sarah, there's only two of us. Hide and seek is no big fun when there's only two players." I said with a monotone voice.
"We'll ask the girls and my brother to play with us dumbass." She chuckled. "Is the heat melting your braincells or something?" She teased.
After I smacked her arm with a fake offended look, we both giggled and agreed to play the game with the rest of the teens here.
We then found our way upstairs and my blond friend immediately headed to her little sister's room, letting me ask her older brother to play with us. She had really left me the hardest part! But I didn't mind much, I liked Rafe, even if he was grumpy most of the time. I mean, he was the only boy surrounded by younger girls. It could be annoying sometimes. Anyway, after climbing the stairs to the floor where Rafe's bedroom was, I finally knocked on the boy's door.
