Just another Nevermoorian Christmas

Morrigan woke up abruptly, a grin quickly spreading across her face as she remembered what day it was. Changing into her (usual) black clothes for the day, she grabbed her red ribbon and tied it in her hair.

She walked over to the presents and smiled once again at the sight of them and started tearing open the presents. She loved all the presents that Martha, Charlie, Kedgeree, Frank, Dame Chanda, and Jack gave her.

Fen...not so much. The dead rat was rather stinky-but it was thought that counted.

Her present from Jupiter confused her. But she was used to being confused by Jupiter's presents, and they usually turned out to be amazing, so she wasn't that concerned.

Except this year, the present was...extremely weird.

A large bright green bucket with a shovel inside lay to the side of the fireplace. A note inside read:

To Mog,
Happy Yuletide! Hope you enjoy your present 😁
Love,
Jupiter

The door flung open and Jack flew in. He held up a bright red bucket in one hand and a red shovel in the other. Raising his eyebrows, he glanced at her gift. Morrigan was hit by a sense of déjàVu.

As if reading her thoughts, Jack said, "Uncle Jove has given us some weird presents...but I think we can safely say that this has been the weirdest one yet."

Morrigan agreed. She also noticed the colour of each of their buckets and sighed. "He thinks he's funny. He also put Merry Christmas! on mine, so I'm guessing he put  Happy Yuletide! on yours, too?" he said, once again mirroring her thoughts as if he read her mind.

Knowing him, he probably had. His eyepatch was off, and while he had his usual cool nonchalant appearance, his eyes were twinkling in excitement.

There was always excitement when it came to Jupiter.

She nodded and showed him her note. "I wonder what the presents are all about," Morrigan said. Every year, Jupiter gave them an exciting present, and he'd never failed to surprise them yet.

Jack grinned. "Uncle Jove also says to 'take Mog to room 28 and meet me there. Take your presents too!'. I wonder what he's got planned for us this year." He beckoned for the girl to follow her and walked out of the room. A second later, he stuck his head back in the door. "You coming?"

"Yep, coming."

The pair ran down to room 28, which was locked. Morrigan and Jack exchanged looks of amusement.

"Here we go again." They used the ends of their shovel, which was meticulously carved at the end and inserted it into the lock, which miraculously (note the sarcasm) opened the door.

"Only Uncle Jove does the same thing every year," he chuckled and stepped inside.

And gasped.

Inside was a literal winter wunderland. A blanket of soft snow layered the ground, the frost covering the door. The sheer whiteness and constant light of the room made the pair squint their eyes in the bright landscape of snow-covered trees. Fen lay to the side of it all, licking the snow and playing with it like a small kitten. Snow was falling lightly from the...sky? There was no roof, even though Morrigan and Jack knew that there was another floor upstairs. But in the midst of all the snow, Morrigan could briefly make out light golden flecks shimmering down, and with a start, realised it was wunder.

And there, in the centre of it all, was a man wearing checkered green and red matching pants and shirt, smiling so wide anyone else's cheekbones would've hurt.
