Let me tell you a story...
Long ago, many many moons ago in ancient Equestria, there lived a very special pony. She was a pegasus, living in a happy little town in a nice little cottage, surrounded by cute little critters who she loved dearly and cared for. And they loved her. In fact, everypony loved her. Her kindness and compassion was known across the land and was adored by many. Alongside her friends, they would travel to where no one had been, face the most dangerous beasts, and together they protected the land of Equestria.
One day, the princess assigned them to a very dangerous task. A terrible monster was on the loose and raining chaos across the land. No one could stop him, except for these special ponies. They went through many trials and hardships, but they succeeded.
However, things didn't end there. The princess felt pity for the monster, and decided to give him a chance a redemption. All the ponies protested, but the young pegasus was the only one willing to help him. Through kindness and patience, she made him realize that it was never too late to change, and to let empathy into his heart.
So miraculously, he was transformed into a kinder, better person. Despite the bumps along the way, the two of them remained friends. And their friendship grew and grew over the years, until it became something more.
A love blossomed between the two that no one could have expected. From different worlds, complete opposites, and yet they loved each other, and that love was stronger that anything anyone could throw at them. Which they certainly tried.
No one knows exactly what their life was like together, or what they went through. But what we do know, was they stuck together through and through until the very end. And even in her final moments he was there, right by her side.
But that was not the end. Ever since then, the legacy of the draconequus has been passed down from generation to generation, along with the story of his lost love. With that, their descendants over the years used what they learned to spread compassion, protect others, and change the world, truly showing us the power of kindness, and that love never dies.
"And that-" Said Lavender closing the book. "is the story of your ancestors."
Cassandra and Varian stared at their mother with confused looks.
"What? That's it!?" Cass exclaimed. "What kind of story was that?"
"Ga." Varian said.
"Oh sweetie," Lavender began. "I know you may not understand it now but you will." She said with an assuring smile. "It's important for you to know these things."
"But WHY? Why is it soooo important for me to sit on a dirty carpet in the dark surrounded by soot and hear about some dead guy's love story?"
"Ba!" Varian said.
"It's not just some guy, and it's not just some story. It's the legend of how our family came to be, and how love can do anything." Lavender answered.
Cass rolled her eyes. "Yeah right, tell that to dad."
"Do not start with me Cassandra." Lavender said with a glare. Cass gulped, when her mom said her full name she knew she meant it.
"Look, don't worry about that right now, what I'm trying to say is you must focus on the positive things in life, and what you can do for others."
"Why should I care about other people?" Cass stood up abruptly. "No one's ever cared about us!"
"Cassie lower your voice."
"Why should I huh? It's not like anyone will hear in this shitty town, they're all too into themselves anyway to even notice!"
"Cassandra sit down!" Lavender yelled. That got her quiet. Cass plopped back down on the floor with a huff. She sighed.
