I sat at an empty table in the far corner of the local college café. Finals were finally over, so I could actually relax now. I checked my mail on my phone as the waitress set my coffee on the table. I paid the lady and after a few word exchanges and smiles, I took a sip of my latte. The sweet drink coated my mouth. I sighed and continued to scroll on my phone until an irritable sound of a chair moving was coming across of me. I furrowed my brows and looked up from my phone and across from me.
There my eyes met a man with dark brown hair and eyes just as dark, arms crossed on the table, looking straight at me. Was this guy from my astrology class?
"Hi..?" I started, not knowing how to continue the awkward encounter.
The man chuckled a low laugh. "I was going to say something sweet to you but when I look at you, I go speechless."
W-what?! My cheeks reddened. "E-excuse me?" Who does this guy think he is?!
"Oh? I think there's something in your eye," he said, pointing to my face.
"What? Where?" I said, rubbing my eyes underneath my glasses.
"Oh, never mind. It was just the sparkles in your eyes," he grinned.
Oh my gosh, is this guy serious? I laughed awkwardly, "why are you doing this?"
The man rested his cheek in the palm of his hand and stared into my eyes. My heart rate quickened. "Because you're so sweet that you're giving me cavities."
"P-please stop, I don't really know you," I said looking out the window, avoiding contact with his chocolate eyes.
I could see the male moving his chair closer to me and the table.
"But I know you, because you're the angel in my dreams."
"Alright, alright," I faced the male and immediately regretted because his eyes were once again, staring into mine. "This has to be a joke, right?" I waited for a reply, but he just closed his eyes and smiled slightly.
"Hmm," he started, "maybe or maybe not."
I gotta leave. What does this dude want from me? I've never spoken to him before and he's just... flirting with me?
"I'm sorry, but I gotta go," I lied, "I need to go home and feed my dog." That was also a lie. I just want to leave. I don't want to be embarrassed by this guy again. As I stood up and grabbed my bag, a firm grip was around my wrist.
"Wait, wait, wait," he called out. "I just wanted to say-"
"Another pickup line?"
I caught him off guard and he was slightly surprised. He lightly laughed it off.
"I just want to hang out with you sometimes," He handed me a slip of paper with a phone number. "For real, not to just tease you," he reassured, "well, maybe a little." He chuckled and I sighed, quietly.
"You could've just said that in the first place, you know," I said, looking away. "If you continue flirting with people like that, you're gonna give them the wrong idea."
"I'm not," he gave a cheeky grin.
My chest felt tight. "S-shut up," I stuttered looking around, anxiously. I didn't know what to do. I would've never imagined something like this would happen to me.
"Hey, look at me." Fingers ran across my jawline and guided my face to a familiar face. "I don't just do this randomly to people I'm not interested in."
I placed my hand on my jaw to get his calloused fingers off my skin and sighed. "I should really get going now," I finally said.
"Alright then." His gaze softened. "See you later, maybe?" He asked with hope in his voice.
I hesitated with my answer. This guy was such a flirt, but at the same time, a part of me wanted to know more about him.
"Maybe," I answered. I turn and faced him with him still looking up at me. We exchanged our farewells, and as I was walking towards the exit, a voice called out.
"I'll miss you a latte!" he hollered.
All my blood rushed to my cheeks as I felt people's eyes on me and him. I quickly covered half of my face and walked out the café. I set foot outside into the busy streets.
"So embarrassing," I mumbled, as I still held his phone number in my hand.
