Thursday rolled around quickly. I didn't want to ask Bria to come tutor at my house because I liked the system we had set up. Unfortunately, my mom started to get suspicious and told me if she doesn't meet this "Bria girl" within the next week she'll stop paying Bria, which in mom language means she won't allow me to go anymore. Not that its expensive, she charges $10 each day so $20 per week. It's more the fact I didn't want Bria in my house. I live in a small two bedroom two bath house with an office we made into a smaller room for my little sister Emily. I'm not embarrassed by it or anything but it's just apart of my life I keep private. Only Nick and Logan have been over and it's always to just stop by or hangout for a couple of hours. Everyone has their own secrets in their lives and this is mine that I like to keep to myself.
Not only keeping my house private but I've never brought a girl home. I know she's not my girlfriend and we are the farthest thing from dating but how is this ant different from brining a girl home for dinner?
I pulled up to her house at 7 and waited in my truck. I offered to pick her up and take her home since we had to go to my place. She peaks out her front door and I wave. Then watch as she goes back inside, coming out two minutes later with her backpack on. She opens the passenger door and slides in, immediately hitting with a scent of her as she buckled herself in.
I stop at a red light and glance over at her. She's leaning against her arm as she watches out the window. I turn the music up slightly and begin to drive again.
I pull into my driveway and turn off my truck. We both hop out and head towards the front door. A strange feeling rushes over me and I can't tell whether I'm worried or relieved as she steps through the door. I hear the tv on low and my mom quietly talking to someone. I make sure to close the door loud enough so that she can hear we came in.
"Nathan is that you?" My mom calls out.
"Yeah mom we're here." I say as I enter the kitchen, Bria following behind me. My mom has her phone pressed to her ear in one hand and she's stirring something in a pot with the other. Once she sees Bria she tells whoever she's in the phone with she has to go, then her face lights up.
"Oh my gosh you're smart and beautiful." She practically shrieks as she takes Brias hands into hers. Bria laughs as she thanks my mom. They have a brief conversation about Bria and how she got stuck tutoring me in the first place. When it finally comes near the end I try to drag her out of the kitchen and towards my room when she turns around and looks back at my mom, "do you need help with dinner Ms Evans?"
"Oh no you two go on but thank you so much for the offer Bria honey." She calls back. I take that answer and grab her wrist, walking to my room before anyone gets the chance to talk anymore, knowing dinner will be enough.
When we get to my room I'm hit with a small wave of embarrassment that I didn't think to clean up better. My bed is pathetically made, a pile of dirty clothes on my chair, and random papers scattered on my desk. She looks unphased as she sets her backpack down and sits on my bed. I watch her pull her feet into her lap and tuck a piece of hair behind her ears.
We sit and discuss something about quadratic equations for the next 30 minutes until my mom calls us for dinner.
Emery is helping set the table so I swoop in and throw her over my shoulder, making her giggle.
"I'm holding a knife bozo." I hear her say as she pats my back. I walk over and throw her down on the couch, "where did you learn that word?" I scrunch my eyebrows at her.
"Selena Gomez." She jumps up and struts over to the kitchen. Last week I sat and watched an episode of the new Disney channel shows and I refused to let her watch that anymore, so now she strictly is allowed to watch Wizards of Waverly place and Zack and Cody.
Emery sets the knife down on the table and turns towards Bria, "who's the blonde" she grins.
"Honey that's Bria, one of Nathaniel's friends, be nice." My mom calls over her shoulder as she finishes up dinner.
"Hi nice to meet you." Bria smiles at her. Emery has never been one for new things and I'm reminded of that every time me or mom have someone over.
"She's playing little mermaid in the school play." I blurt out. Emery's eyes light up and that's when I know this night will be okay. After Bria tells Emery all about her part dinner is ready and I feel like I can breathe again.
"So you have a twin sister?" My mom asks as we start to eat."Yes I do." Bria looks over at my mom. "Her name is Bailey, we're a little different personality wise but we're identical. Nathan's one of the best people at telling us apart."
It's never crossed my mind that most people have a hard time telling them apart. Brias face is a little rounder and her lips are a little bit fuller, but I think if you mentioned it she'd disagree. Her voice also is a raspier than Baileys which I've guessed is from all the singing she's done. On top of it all Bria carries herself more maturely than Bailey ever has.
Thankfully my mom talks our ears off for the rest of dinner and we can finally go back into my room and study again. Although once we sit down I don't remember I word she says because my mind keeps wondering off.
Why was I so nervous about her coming over. Why did my mom want to meet her so badly when she knows I've hung out with girls before. How did she manage to do so well. How is she so pretty.
"Nathan?" She waves at me.
"Yeah sorry what's up." I shake my head.
"I asked you if you finish the problem yet." She looks down at my paper and sighs. "Maybe we should call it a night."
"What why."
"We've had a long day and I don't think either of us are in a mood to focus right now." She soft smiles at me as she closes her book.
"Are you sure?" I close my book and stand with her off of my bed.
"Yes really I think we could use the night off."
I follow her out of my room and into the living room where she thanks my mother and says goodbye to Emery. The drive to her house is short and mainly filled with small talk and the music playing softly in the back. Once I pulled up she thanked me and hopped out of my truck. I sat and waited to make sure she got in safely before I left.
Than thought the whole ride home what I was going to do about this.
