"I only recently became Terra and Jet's parents really," Storm fiddled with the rim of his glove as he spoke to Vera, her nodding and listening, "I have been looking after them for a while, but it was only really official when I told Wave how I felt. Heh... bad timing..." She frowned, noticing how Storm glanced over at this world's Wave. She was peacefully asleep, her head rested against the other version of him. She really was beautiful...
"Ay..." she sighed quietly, looking back at Storm. She gathered what to say, as she never knew what loss felt like, "Lo siento, I um... don't know how it must feel... but... it must hurt a lot..."
"Yeah..." the albatross chuckled sadly, "Yeah it does. I... I didn't even get to kiss her..."The two sat in silence, and Vera gently lay a hand on Storm's back. Her finger traced a spiral onto his back.
"You still have love, mi amigo," Storm looked up at her, "So many people around here who care for you." They both looked up at the sleeping bodies around them. Sonic, Lancelot, Jet, Silver, Elise, Miles, Shadow, Serena, the other Storm, Jet and Wave. People who offered an alliance, people who trusted him and stood with him when times were hard. They all fought to protect each other, even if it lead to losing Wave. She was protecting them too. It's what a family does... they were family.
"You may have found yourself in a difficult place, a place where you feel you've lost your way. But you know..." she spread her hand onto his back, her palm resting against it, "even if the path is only paved straight and a fallen tree has it blocked, the forest that lines it is always there to guide you."
"Yeah..." The albatross' eyes slowly began to flutter shut, and he leaned against the possum, asleep. She hummed quietly. Though it was a nice conversation they had, her job was done. The device was placed, sleep induced, she could leave. Carefully, she lifted Terra from her lap, placing them in Jet's lap instead. Storm curled up on the sofa as he lacked his head support. She approached the door, looking back at Terra. They weren't being tracked... they were safe.
"Nos vemos, chiquito..."{~-~}{~-~}{~-~}{~-~}
"It is placed."
Starline clapped happily and jumped up and down, while Infinite let out a sigh of relief and looked over at Mephiles. Seems these people could be trusted. The platypus wrapped his arms around Vera, scaling the front of her body in order to reach her lips, planting a strong kiss against them. Vera returned the kiss, holding him up so that he wouldn't fall. The affection made her feel bad. She did place the tracker, but it wasn't the right target..."Does that mean I can have god finally?" Exie was standing over them already, and Vera quickly ended the exchange, leaving Starline whimpering.
"Sí, no need to know how they looked, just follow the signal on here." She handed Exie a small device, one that detected a signal within the still open rift. The hedgehog nodded, entered the rift, and the possum closed it behind him.---
"Wait, stop."
Miles examined the device on Storm's back, furrowing his eyes. "I think it's a tracker... that possum... she put it on you, didn't she?"---
"Star...?" Starline ran his hands through Vera's chest fur.
"Yes, mi corazon?" Vera sighed.
"I think... I might have made a mistake..."---
"I-I mean she put her hand on my back while comforting me?" Storm recalled, then he realised. "Terra?!" He looked at Terra all over. No device. He sighed in relief. "Thank goodness, it's just me..."
"Thank goodness?!" Shadow yelled, "They know where we are! We're dead!"
"Not unless I take this thing far away..."---
"What do you mean?"
"Well.. um.." Tears found their way into Vera's eyes. She couldn't... say it. She felt like she'd betrayed him.. If he found out she was soft... "Nevermind."
"No, no, darling," Starline insisted, a hand gently holding her cheek, "Tell me. I won't judge you..."
