The first time their eyes met was in the library.

She was sitting there by the window reading a book when he saw her. Almost instantly, she looked up. Within seconds, she had seen him, and the book which was so interesting moments ago was forgotten, all her thoughts focusing on him.

Who was he? What was his name? He was probably new here.

She looked at the page in front of her, but didn't read. She secretly glanced at the new boy who had so easily invaded her mind.

Everytime he noticed her look up from the book he looked away, not wanting to seem like a staring creep. He couldn't understand why she made him act like this. He was usually more confident and didn't have a problem meeting new people. But something about her made him feel different. Good different, and he liked it.

Time passed, how long, neither of them could be sure of. It could've been seconds, minutes, hours. It didn't matter. Her phone vibrated, bringing her back to reality. It was time to go home.

She picked up her bag, checked out a couple of books, and left the library. All throughout, she couldn't help but look at that boy. What had he done to her?

Just as she was leaving, they made eye contact. It was like everything stood still for a second. It felt just right. She smiled and walked away quickly, blushing, and he couldn't help but grin like a cheshire cat all the way home.

They saw each other at the library almost everyday. It was almost part of their routine. But they never said a word to each other. She was too shy and the thought of going up to him and talking to him made the butterflies in her stomach go crazy, and he just couldn't get himself to talk to her just yet.

Days passed. Days became weeks, and two weeks before he had to leave for his first year at the university, he decided to talk to her.

That evening he walked to the library holding a single red rose in his hand and humming a tune. Just as he reached the library, he saw her. She was standing with a boy about the same age, talking to him with a happy smile on her face. He stood there, watching them. She looked at the boy with so much love and it broke his heart to see that it wasn't him she was smiling and looking at. He watched her as she hugged the boy and he hugged her back tight, like he didn't want to let go.

He couldn't take it anymore, and he turned right back and walked home, throwing the red rose in a bin as he passed it.

All that time he had no idea he was watching her. She was with Alex, her best friend in the whole world, still going on and on about how she was going to finally talk to him that day when he came to the library. She was excited, nervous and happy all together. And Alex was there to make sure she didn't chicken out and run back home before she could talk to the boy who she seemed to have fallen for. She hugged Alex, and he hugged her back, not wanting to let her go. Finally, she went in, and Alex left.

She sat in her usual spot by the window with a book, waiting for him to come. She waited and waited. But he never came.

The same thing happened over the next ten days. She waited in the library, but he didn't turn up. She was getting more anxious by the day. She was to leave for her first year at the university in three days, and she had to talk to him before that or there was a good chance she'd never see him again. She didn't even want to think of that.

He couldn't go to the library after that day. It would just hurt to see her and know that she was with that other boy and he couldn't have her. He figured that once he was off to the university he'd forget about her. But he didn't stop hoping that it would work out, somehow.

It was the final day. She was leaving for college that day. Since it was the first year, the new students were asked to arrive three days before actual classes started.

She told her mother goodbye and got into the car. Her father was driving her to the university. It wasn't that far, but it wasn't close enough for frequent visits either. She still hadn't forgotten the boy, and even at that last second wished that she could have talked to him before she left. She didn't even know his name.

The same day, he left for college too.

The evening before classes started, she was in the college library, searching for some books. She was walking past the bookshelf, immersed in her search, when she bumped into someone, dropping the books she was holding. Bending down to pick them up she mumbled a polite apology without even looking at the person. She stood up, carefully holding the books, expecting the person to have walked away. But he was still standing there, looking at her. And when she saw him, she gasped softly, her eyes widening in surprise. It was him. He was actually there, right there. She was so happy to see him, and she couldn't help but smile.

He couldn't believe it. She was standing there in front of him. She went to the same university that he did. The way she smiled and looked at him would've made the other boy jealous, and he knew that she was meant to be with him.

They stood there for a few seconds. He stretched out his right hand and spoke with a sparkle in his eyes and a charming smile on his face.

"Hey, I'm Blain."

He had a voice that would've melted the hearts of a million girls, and made her knees go weak.

Her eyes gleamed with joy and she took his hand to shake it and instantly they felt sparks of electricity where her hand touched his. She wasn't shy anymore.

"Hi, I'm Emily."
