"I swear, I NEVER agreed to this Jasmine."
"Kamala, I promise you it's NOT THAT BAD."
"Who told you to sign me up, without asking me?"
"No one had to Kamala, just give it a shot, trust me."
Hey, I'm Kamala. Kamala Agarwal. I just moved all the way from San Diego to New Jersey. So why the switch you ask? I was having the time of my life back in San Diego. It was perfect. I just settled into the perfect friend group, started dating my crush that I've liked for FOREVER, and I had just gotten my glow up. But then my parents had to ruin everything by telling me we were moving to New Jersey. There's literally nothing special about this place, and I don't understand who would want to move halfway across the US just for a job.
"Welcome, welcome! You girls are just in time."
"That's Ms. Smith, she's really nice, and you'll love her, I promise." Jasmine whispered in my ear, just before we took a seat in the circle.Jasmine has been my best friend since the two of us were 4 years old. Both of us used to live in Chicago, but then she moved to New Jersey, and a few months later I ended up moving to San Diego. But now I'm back with her, in New Jersey, so I'm glad that she's by my side again.
"Alright, I think everyone's here," Ms. Smith added, "let's start off by introducing ourselves.
Please don't pick me first, please don't pick me first I thought to myself.
"You, in the blue shirt, go ahead and start us off." Ms. Smith called, pointing to me. I had a blue crop top on with the words San Diego in bright yellow letters. My cousin had gifted it to me right before we left.
"Me?" I asked, sweating like crazy. I hate being put under pressure.
"Yes, you darling. Just tell us your name, a fun fact about yourself, and why you joined debate club."
"I'm Kamala Agarwal, I just moved to New Jersey over the summer, and I joined debate club because Jasmine asked me to try it out with her."
"Interesting. Alright, go ahead and pick the next person."
I looked around the room to choose the next person, when a certain boy caught my eye. He had black fluffy hair, a yellow shirt, and as far as meets the eye, he looks pretty fit. But I hadn't noticed I'd been checking him out, until Jasmine nudged me.
"You're staring..." she whispered, and shivers went down my spine. My face was tomato red, and the boy in the yellow shirt was smirking at me.
"Um, the guy in the yellow shirt," I said, pointing at him. I had finally managed a few words out of my mouth. His smirk only got bigger, and my face had only gotten redder.
"I'm Krish Acharya, I've been playing sports since I was 4, and I joined debate club to meet new people and try something new," as Krish finished talking, he eyes made his way to my face, with the smirk still plastered on his face.
The whole session went by as we talked about each other's interests and we made out way around the circle, right when the bell rang.
"Alright, lunch is over! Come back Wednesday, where we'll be starting our first debate topic," Ms. Smith yelled, but by the time she finished, all the kids were out the door.
"So, what was all of that about," Jasmine asked, eager to know what her best friend had gotten herself into.
"Who's that boy?" I asked her back, completely ignoring her question. I was too curious to answer her.
"Oh him? That's Krish Acharya."
"I know that, genius, he said so himself, but why does he look so good?"
Jasmine giggled under her breath, "Someone's got a cRuSH!"
"Shhh! He's gonna hear!" I yelled, mad at first, but then we both burst out into laughter, and made our way to the next class.
"So what if he hears? He's only the most popular, good looking guy in the school." She answered, smirking. Meanwhile, she had stopped me in my tracks.
"Most popular? Seriously?"
"I'm not even joking, you can ask every single person here, and they would know."
"I don't believe it for a second."
"He's on the Boy's Basketball team too! Of course he's popular."
"Is there any way you could get me his Snap?"
"Girl, you've known him for what, 45 mins?"
"Please?"
"We'll see. Now, I gotta head to Math, I'll see you in Science!"
"Bye!"
We did our besties handshake and went out separate ways.
Did I just meet the love of my life? I thought to myself.
No no, Kamala, stop! He's not even that attractive anyways. You have better things to focus on.There were two different voices going on in my head, and I didn't know which one to believe. How had I never heard of this boy?
