"Was? He's what?" My mouth fell open in shock.

Our neighbors to the east were run by Stefan Hartford. A strong Alpha who had brought his pack back from the brink of ruin after the disastrous ruling era of his father. Stefan had opened up communications with me when I became Alpha of the Moon Stone pack. While we were a strong, thriving, advanced pack who didn't need anything the Green River pack could offer, I saw an opportunity to help a kind wolf leader who was trying to make positive change. In this instance, I was offering more help to him than him to I. Better to make friends and help our kind survive and adapt as the human world evolved.

The female in my arms burst into tears. Sobs racked her body, clearly causing her more pain, cyclically causing more tears. Growing up with only brothers meant I was woefully equipped to hand her cries. The only thing I could do was quicken my pace towards our pack house and find Dr. Sara Beth.

Without being able to shift, I could only move so fast up the hill towards our settlement. We stayed far away from the east side even after Stefan took over. Our stability and the safety of my pack was more important than the quarrels of the east. By the grace of the Moon Goddess, she passed out in my arms. Perhaps from exhaustion, perhaps from pain, or perhaps from emotions.

She didn't stir even as I found Sara Beth or as we transferred her from my arms to the hospital bed. S.B. and her nurses took great care examining her wounds. Special care had to be taken as she had admitted to two, possibly more, head injuries. Whoever she was, daughter of Alpha Stefan or not, she was lucky to have rather minor cuts and only a fracture in her arm. She'd have a lovely headache when she awoke due to a minor concussion. But all things considered, she was lucky to be alive. Both because of the rock to the head and the small issue or her being quite literally hunted on her own pack lands.

"W-who are you?"

She was awake.

"You can call me Ty. I think a better question is who you are, Princess."

"Stop calling me that!" Her voice cracked mid-sentence.

"Name." I growled, using my Alpha tone.

"Jensyn Hartford." Clearly the tone worked on wolves outside my pack.

"Daughter of Stefan Hartford?"

"Yes."

"You don't have to talk about it now, but I need to know what happened last night in your territory."

Jensyn cast her vivid brown eyes downward, overcome with emotion. Unsure what to do, I place my hand over hers like they did in those human movies.

"I know it must be hard...what you went through. I only ask so that I can help you and keep my people safe as well."

"Your people? You-you're not an Alpha are you?"

"I am."

Now her eyes shot skyward. Pink flushed her cheeks and a bead of sweat broke out on her brow.

"No need for embarrassment."

"You are an Alpha. I have completely embarrassed myself. I am so sorry Alpha Ty. Please, I promise as soon as I am able I will leave. I appreciate your hospitality and kindness in getting me to a doctor. Don't want to overstay my welcome."

"You will stay here."

Now her eyes met mine.

"You. Will. Stay. You're in an incredible amount of danger."

"Exactly why I have to run."

"You're a runaway of a former Alpha of Green River pack. I'm afraid you won't have many resources to reach out to for safety."
