Chapter 34: Hero

I watch Eddie make his way back to the gate, awaiting the arrival of Vecna. I hate his plan, but its the only one we've got.

I move away from the gate but I make sure it remains in my vision. I want to make sure Eddie is okay. That he remains okay.

"Melissa! Thank fuck you're alive!" I hear Steve's voice shout from behind me. I turn and see my friends, alive and unharmed. The monsters haven't made their way here just yet. "You had us all worried. Why would you sneak away like that at a time like this?"

"I'm sorry. When I fell asleep, I had another vision. I saw you all die. I saw Eddie die again. I couldn't put you in harms way. I had to do something. Anything to help," I say as Dustin runs into my arms, squeezing me in a hug. "Eddie's okay. He was being puppeted by Vecna but he made his way back to us."

Dustin looks up at me, his eyes glistening with tears.

"He's back? He's okay?" he asks. "Where is he?"

"He's still a vampire. He's still undead, but he's himself. He's at the master gate. Waiting for Vecna. He has a plan."

Dustin pulls back and glares at me. The screeches from the monsters are now getting closer.

"What do you mean he's waiting for Vecna? What plan?"

"Dustin, we don't have time for this. We have to fight."

I look to Nancy and Steve.

"What's come through? What are we fighting?" Steve asks, handing me a spear.

"Demodogs, demogorgons and many others. But there's something bigger coming," I reply.

"Oh, fun."

I hear a screech coming from the direction of the gate. Getting closer. Vecna's army are spreading through Hawkins. We don't have long.

"El, are you able to tackle the demogorgons? Kill as many as you can," Nancy asks El. "We will handle the demodogs, and then we go for the bigger monsters, together."

"Got it?" Steve asks, looking between us all. We're all here, except Will and Joyce. All scared but willing to fight for Hawkins. For our home. "Let's go."

We make our way towards the master gate. The sound of gunfire now only intermittent. Debris of the crumbling buildings somehow floating through the sky. I let Hopper in on Eddie's plan, hoping he'll agree to help. But we need Vecna to appear first.

We split off, heading in different directions, but within sight of at least one of us. I can see Hopper to my left, closest to the gate. El on my right.

Vecna's army swiftly notices our appearance, instantly attacking us. We engage in battle, killing as many monsters as we can manage.

The ground shakes once more and Vecna appears through the gate, finally making his appearance. He looks towards Eddie, knowing he no longer has influence over him. He's in danger and he knows it, but that's why we made the plan.

Hopper throws his sword up to Eddie and he catches it in one hand, pointing it towards Vecna. He stares him down, slowly circling, waiting for him to strike.

In the flash of an eye, they engage in battle. Vecna swipes his clawed hand at Eddie, missing him by inches. Eddie swipes the sword, but Vecna easily dodges it.

I continue watching in horror as Eddie battles Vecna. The sword from Hopper dancing through the air. His shield beating away the attacks from Vecna's claws.

Vecna's psychic powers don't seem to work against Eddie anymore. His greatest weapon has now turned into his greatest enemy.

I look over at El as she battles with the demogorgons, slicing through them like butter. Her powers now stronger than ever.
