they knew that they didn't make each other happy anymore, they knew what they had was long gone. they'd given up a long time ago.
they were confused, they didn't know what they wanted. they knew that when they were apart they felt empty, empty as if a large piece of them was missing. when they were together they were content, content but never happy.
they were sickly dependent on each other. they were attached in ways that minds outside of their owns couldn't fathom.
they always told themselves that they were done, that they would heal separately, that they would get over each other. they told themselves that they would allow the other to be happy without each other.
they never held themselves to their word. whenever one called, the other was there. they would drop everything to be whatever the other need, whenever they needed it.
