As Megan and I walked into the cafeteria for lunch A group of kids yelled at Megan and motioned her over. "Come on." Said Megan grabbing my arm and dragging me after her. "Hey y'all, what's up?" Asked Megan with a beaming smile.

"Doing good, and who is this?" Asked one of the boys who was at the table with a slant of his brow.

"This is Daniela, she just moved in with her dad this summer. She is really nice, though a little shy." She said and gave me a hard pat on the back which about knocked me over, onto the table. And apparently everyone thought that was funny and started laughing.

"Well obviously she isn't that shy because she is hanging out with the 'Star of attention'" Said the boy again, giving me a smile. And of course I started to blush. "So where are you from" he asked. And of course everyone agreed that they wanted to know that.

I hesitated, but decided there was no reason to hide where I used to live. "California." I said plainly.

Everyone at the table started saying cool and awesome and such because apparently California is the place to be. Then we heard yelling Everyone's eyes in the cafeteria went straight to the right corner of the back. It was him. It was John and his group and they were yelling at each other. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying but I could tell that it meant trouble. And the fact that everyone close to them started to move away made my stomach turn over. Then all of a sudden a member of the group threw a punch at John right in the gut, and it was so hard it made John stumble back and fall onto the floor. Everyone froze.

"What is going on here!" Yelled out Mr. Smith with the sound of nails on a chalkboard as he ran across the room to separate the two since when everyone froze the member of the group had jumped on top of John and they were rolling on the floor. Once Mr. Smith got there he tried pulling the member of the group off of John but then the member of the group turned and nailed one right in Mr. Smith's mouth. Mr. Smith stumbled backwards from the impact and then there was a loud crack as he fell and hit his head against a table and then was laying on the floor....

I didn't even think, I quickly ran over to Mr. Smith and knelt down. I put my hand at the back of his head and when I pulled my hand back it was covered in a stinky red liquid....blood. "Someone get help!" I yelled, not even bothering to look back to see if anyone moved. I quickly sat Mr. Smith up and leaned him up against the table. I turned his head and saw a ragged cut along the back of his head which was having blood pour out of it almost like a river. The smell of iron was overpowering me.... it was making me feel as if I myself may collapse. I then pressed both my hands against his injury to try and staunch the blood flow. But it seemed that even with me doing that it was still pouring out.

After a few minutes someone quickly squatted next to me and whispered in my ear. "Thanks for helping, but I got it from here." I looked over to see a middle aged man who had eyes that seemed way beyond his years. I then nodded and slowly let go and he quickly went to work. I stood up and walked to Megan who looked pale as a ghost.

"Where is the bathroom so I can clean up?" I asked trying to seem calm and that this was an everyday thing...

"Oh ok." She smiled and started to walk towards the door for the cafeteria, and I followed.

Once we got to the bathroom I went to the sink and started washing my hands. The smell of iron was so strong it was making my nostrils flair. The last time I had smelled this much iron...was when I walked into my mothers hair salon and found my mother...dead.

I froze.... I could hardly breath and everything around me was getting blurry. I grabbed onto the sink for support but I knew that it wouldn't be that great of support with my damp hands from the blood and water. Then I saw the sink start to rush to my head, and everything went black.

When I came to I was on a bed with a plastic sheet and every time I even breathed it crinkled. I slowly sat up and looked around. I saw a bunch of health posters about washing your hands. Then I saw a door, and through it I saw Mr. Smith laying on a bed similar to mine. Then I heard someone clearing their throat. "Hello Miss....Hunter." said the man who had knelt beside me when I tried helping Mr. Smith with a billboard in his hands and a heart warming smile.

"What happened?" I asked, a little embarrassed.

"You passed out while cleaning up after helping me with Mr. Smith." he said.

"Oh.... umm...what time is it?" I asked while standing up from the bed.

"Five till school is out." He stated. "And don't worry, you shouldn't have any homework." He stated as he was turning to Mr. Smiths room and gave me a little smile. "You are free to leave... but if you feel lightheaded or anything you probably should wait to drive." And he walked in and shut the door behind him.

I decided I was fine and walked out of the room into the hall. I then walked to the left and kept walking until I saw the wolf mural and went up to it. When I got to it I leaned up against the wall and waited. When the bell rang people seemed to spill out of the rooms and rush to the door. I looked over the crowd until I saw a pair of blond pigtails and plaid. So then I elbowed my way to her, and when I got to her she quickly put me into a bear hug were I could hardly breathe. "Hey Megan. What did I miss?" I asked with a little smile to my face.
