Bright. Everything was bright in Semora, or wherever I landed. That was the right word. Bright. Very, very bright.
I was down on the floor when I landed and boy did it hurt! Apparently, I wasn’t very welcome to this place. Everything seemed so big, I wondered how this whole place can stay afloat in the sky. I looked around to see this new world. It looked deserted. No one was around that looked like me. Well, actually no one was around at all.
Then, I finally realized I was outside the kingdom walls. They looked like they’ve been washed non-stop just to make you see your reflection in them. In fact, I could see my reflection in the walls and others, too. The faces seemed to call out to me. But, what were they saying? I couldn’t understand what they were saying. I decided to ignore them and walk on. I finally found the gate to the inside of Semora. The gate was a cherry wood door with a golden handle and hinges. It seemed almost unreal, but then I touched the handle and found out that the coldness in my fingers was a sign of life in this bizarre place.
I turned the handle clockwise and then pushed the door open. Behind the door an amazing world stood before me. Towers rose to the sky, mythical creatures flew around in circles, and people were chatting and having fun right before me. I was amazed that a whole new world was right above me this whole time! I couldn’t believe it; I can now fit in!
I looked around me and how this magical new world could be my possible new home. Actually, it will be my new home, considering I just ran away from home. Now there’s no turning back or telling my parents. I walked a few steps away from the big, golden door, when it slammed shut and everyone went silent. Nothing began to move. I bet even the world stopped spinning and revolving around the sun to stop and hear the loud bang of the door. Everyone looked at me as if I was some strange alien from another weird world. I guess I was to them.
I felt really awkward being there on the spot with the loud door behind me, so I waved to them. The people froze, which gave me some time to examine them. Most of the people had either wings or fangs as their major body feature, while others were dragons, fairies, or merpeople. By the time I looked at the people, I suddenly felt like an outsider, being possibly the only one without any fangs or wings of that sort.
When I waved, a little girl pushed out of the crowd of people and into the front where I can see her. She waved back at me. At least someone doesn’t think I’m from another planet, I thought to myself. The girl then turned around in circles a couple of times, and then grew twice her size. I realized that she was the woman who came to my house and gave me the box, except without the wrapping around her face. This time, I was sure that it was the same face that got me here.
“Welcome, Kyra,” the woman said, waving to me again. I was amazed that she could shape shift into a smaller size and actually look like another person. Maybe I was amazed because I’d never seen a shape shifter before.
“Um, hi?” I said, still trying to get everything together in my mind. She motioned with her hands to follow me and I did as she said. The people still stared at me with their wide eyes and closed mouths. I tried not to look at them as I followed the woman into a busy street.
We arrived at a large building a couple of blocks later. It seemed like the main castle of Semora, with large columns and towers, making it stand out of the rest of the buildings. In big, bold, fiery letters (and yes, they were actually written in flames), a large sign floated in front of the building. It read: Jack J. High School of Magical Arts. This made me excited. The strange woman was going to enroll me into a school where they’ll actually accept me and aren't threatened by parents who will eat them if they don’t accept me. I felt right at home at first glance at the sign and skipped all the way to the front door of the school.
Inside, the school looked like any ordinary school. Students, teachers, hallways, loud noise coming from everyone. The only difference was that everyone was doing something magical every second. Someone in the corner was freezing his drink so it was cold. A boy was showing off his fire skills to his friends. A teacher turned into a monster to scare the children into not doing any more bad deeds. Even the walls of the school were magic filled. They had pictures that moved (and I’m not talking about a large TV screen filling the whole entire school) among the walls and doors that disappeared and reappeared when a student wanted to go somewhere. You might think I’ll sound like a nerd for saying this, but school is now one of my favorite places to go to.
