Demetri Volturi POV

I was waiting in the hallway. It was about six o'clock PM and I could hear Alec’s footsteps coming towards me.

A few of our suits had gotten stained or damaged from chasing particularly violent newborns and we wanted to visit a fancy clothing store to find some new things to wear.

Felix, being very tall, had his private designer who made him tailor-made suits so he did not accompany us this evening. We had started to run towards the village of Mazzola when the sun had recently set.

"You know, some of the suits you messed up were worth over three hundred dollars. When we go hunting, you should wear something less valuable since you and Felix are the ones who fight the most.” Alec told me.

“Of course, it will be lucky if we find costumes for twenty euros in Italy. Let's face it, Alec, you saw how wild those newborns were. I don't care if I mess up some costumes; after all, they're just clothes.” I told him.

I saw Alec nod his head. I stepped up my pace to overtake him. I heard him laugh.

“You always have a competitive spirit despite the times. You know I'm much faster than you and you'll never admit it.” He told me.

I laughed lightly and sped up even more.

“Try it and we will see!”

I let out a groan as Alec passed me within two seconds of speeding up.

“I am two hundred years older than you and more experienced. You still have a lot to learn about my abilities.” Alec told me.

I whistled and tried to pass Alec, but he turned to look at me, winking at me when I couldn't pass him.

“Rahhh, fuck you, you leprechaun.”

“If you think it upsets me, you’re wrong. I can still let Jane know. She won't take it as well as I do.” Alec said.

"Rohhh, I'm sorry. Please don't tell her. I'd rather her be on Felix's case than me.” I begged of him.

Alec just started laughing.

“Felix just didn't have to hang up her dress. You know she is very careful with her outfits. When we arrive, we will go to an alley.” Alec told me.

We looked around us, trying to avoid people, and we ended our race in an alley. We stared at each other, smiling like fools as we put on our contact lenses which restored our human eye color. We walked into a costume shop that Alec liked.

The lady at the counter smiled at us as she greeted us and we greeted her back in Italian. As we walked down the rows to look at the costumes, I overheard her chatting with someone about the newborn attacks we had to deal with and also some family issues. I turned to Alec.

“I wear size thirty four. If you ever see anything tasteful, let me know. You have more of an eye for those details than I do.”

Alec walked away after saying the same thing to me.

“Same, but for me it's thirty.”

I stared down a row and walked over to the sizes, looked into the thirty and saw a dark black suit, the exact shade Alec wore regularly. I picked it up and showed it to him. He sighed.

" I already have it.”

I put down the suit and looked through the others. Most of them were navy or gray. I looked down at the ones near my waist and found a dark gray suit and a black one. I looked the black one over and decided I liked it. They came with a jacket, shirt and pants. I looked at their price.

“One hundred Euro each, they're pretty good.“ I whispered.

“Do as you please. For my part, I found only one black. Unfortunately, this color sells very quickly.”

I smirked.

“I had seen a pretty navy one that would have looked good on you.” I told Alec.

Alec looked at me with an outraged look.

"Do I look like someone wearing a blue suit? Idiot. "

I started laughing at him.

“Hey!” I told him. “It was just a joke.”

I looked over at a mannequin, and he was wearing a black suit and I thought that would look good on Alec. I walked to the row next to the mannequin and found only one in size thirty. It was a new arrival. I'd be surprised if Alec owns this one.

“Psst.” I said to Alec.

Alec looked up, And I showed him what the mannequin was wearing.

“There is only one in size thirty.” I told him.

“He does look pretty classy.” Alec replied.

“The price isn’t very good, though.” I told him.

" How much?” He said, wary.

 “Four hundred Euros.”

“I have enough don't worry about my wealth” He said. “I'll take it.”

Alec took the three suits we were more interested in along with the one I showed him and we headed forward and put our clothes on the counter.

I looked at the young woman standing next to the lady at the register. She wore clothes that young people wear a lot today. A gray sweater, a blue jacket and black ripped pants. She looked up at me. I lost myself in her gaze.

The young woman in front of me was pretty. She had such pretty eyes and her face was so angelic. I remained frozen in front of this young woman. I took a light breath, soaking up her scent. She was both so sweet and divine, despite the human smells she gave off. I was sure of only one thing: I never wanted to leave this sweet creature who was by my side. She stared at me with a smile on her face. I could hear her heart beating rapidly as she stared back at me.

I turned to Alec as he put his hand on my shoulder abruptly.

" No.” he whispered so that only I could hear him.

I turned to look at him. I looked back at the ladies and excused myself to them, telling the employee in Italian that I would be back in a moment. I left my clothes on the counter and Alec took me away from the register and this lovely young woman from whom I had a lot of trouble taking my eyes off.

Alec pushed me close to a wall.

"Did it trigger your thirst?" he whispered to me.

I groaned and turned to him.

" You are crazy. You don't understand, it's her. I can feel it deep inside me. This bound... I don't know how I know but I've never felt this before.” I told him.

" What ? Are you sure?” He asked me with a shocked look on his face.

Alec looked to the left and froze. I stared in the direction of the girl who was staring into space. I couldn't believe I had just met my soul mate. It seemed unreal to me. A police car passed in front of the window with it’s lights on and the young girl, the one who now held my heart, jumped.

I saw the one who was destined for me turn around and all of a sudden, her body arched. The dish she held in her hands fell. Her body was falling to the floor with a thud as her heart was beating fast and I could even hear the banging of her head against the tiled floor. I froze and stared at Alec.

"What's happening to her?” I asked Alec frantically.

"I don't know any more than you do.” He said.

I only heard the scream of the other woman and her rushing to the young woman’s side while Alec and I both stared at the young woman on the ground.
