mike rubbed his eyes and slammed his hand down on the button of his alarm clock. god it was loud. he glanced at the clocks face, it read 6:30am. he was used to waking up at almost midday, so... this was not gonna be fun.
he sat up and flung his legs groggily over the side of his bed, grumbling under his breath. god he hoped it was worth it going all the way to california. he had spent the entirety of last night rushing around the town to find a present for el. he had finally found some flowers and some stupid little bear that said 'i like you a lot!'
he got up from sitting on his bed, arching his back in a stretch before glancing around. he found some jeans thrown under his bed and a weird Hawaiian shirt crumpled on a chair. he wasn't sure how long those had been there.
probably a few weeks honestly.
he quickly grabbed a hat, some sunglasses and anything else he thought was necessary and then proceeded to hurry downstairs. his bag was on the stairs so there was no need to worry about lugging the bag down those stairs.
'could you be any louder, mike?' it was nancy, sitting at the kitchen table, tiredly spooning cereal into her mouth while writing something in a little book. she was driving him to the airport.
he ignored her, grabbing a bowl for himself and starting to pour some cereal. the moment he sat down with it, the phone ran loudly. nancy stopped what she was doing, raising her eyebrows and sighing in exasperation. she picked up the phone once it had let out it's annoying chime for the 6th time.
'hello?' she spoke into it. 'uh.. sure.. ?'
she held the phone out to me.
i felt a twinge of annoyance. was el really that needy? it was 6:30am. couldn't she wait? they were gonna be seeing each other in a few hours and he had already told her about everything and what time he would get there and what colour his suitcase was and what not.he spooned a mouthful of cereal up before taking the phone from nancy. 'hi.' he spoke through the mouthful.
'MIKE! HI!' he winced at the sound of el's loud voice so early in the morning. 'oh my god it's great to hear from you!'
'we.. spoke last night?'
'well- yes but- im just so excited to see you today! i mean it's been what?? 15 months now?? im finally gonna get to see your face mike! we can hug, kiss, cuddle, hold hands, eat together.. OH and there's this place i want to take you - ..'
mike heard will talking to someone in the background and smiled a little at the sound of the boys faint voice. it had been ages since they had called, or written or spoke at all really. when he had tried to yesterday will had almost.. brushed him off? he had been very cold and their conversation had lasted for literally 10 seconds before the phone had been handed back to eleven, will claiming 'he had to go' or something along those lines. he really didn't understand. they had been best friends before he had moved. he felt a twinge of doubt at that.
i mean.. were we really best friends? after that argument especially.
he shivered at the memory. at one thing especially which he had said to the boy.
