Protagonist is an orphan under the care of the church and has been since they were four years old. Now the protagonist is thirteen years old, one of the seven kids orphaned there, and ready to leave the church. The sisters are annoyed with the protagonist and get tired chasing after them, scaling the walls and bell towers and stealing food from the kitchen. The protagonist runs away one early morning evading the sisters with only the clothes on their back. They run through the forest and into the closest town with a port to finally fulfill their dream. The protagonist has always wanted to live life on a ship, like a soldier, riding the waves, wind in their hair. The stories they have read told the tales of the adventures and beautiful things to see and experience on the ocean waves. The protagonist comes running into the town bustling with farmers and shop owners but the crowd had gathered around the port. The famous ship and its crew had arrived at port after a very long time, hunting pirates and searching for treasure. They were legends and the protagonist was shocked and over joyed seeing their heroes and joined the crowd. The protagonist pushed through the bigger bodies to get a view of the crew and its famous captain. While they celebrate in the bar with gallons and gallons of beer, the protagonist watches from the sidelines waiting for a chance to speak with the captain. The captain was taken back by the young protagonist and their proposal to join his crew but refused the idea and ignored the protagonist. Stubborn and headstrong, the protagonist snuck onto the ship with the supplies waiting until the next morning when the ship would sail again. The next morning when the ship had already left port with a new mission, to find a specific treasure that was priceless and a myth. After a couple hours away from dryland the crew was busy running around, tending to the ship when one of the crewmates was gathering food when he found the protagonist crammed in between two barrels. Sheepish the protagonist was dragged above and the crewmate yelled for the captain, a stow away was on board. Everybody went quiet and watched as the captain approached the young teen with a stoic face with anger in his step. The captain yelled and exclaimed why the protagonist snuck aboard after he already explicitly told them no, not leaving any room for the protagonist to interject, who stared down and fumbled with their sleeve cuffs. He ordered the ship to turn around and head back to port and drop the protagonist off but was cut short and reminded that if they turned around, they wouldn't be able to catch the red moon. He sighed deeply, waved his arms around before pointing to his second mate to look after the protagonist and was responsible for them. The captain stormed off and the crowd dissipated going back to their jobs while the second mate led the young teen to a room to sit and stay still. The teen took in the small room that they shared with the second mate and awed at the weapons all over the room, shining in all its glory. First day at sea was not what the protagonist expected but still filled with surprise and adventure. The captain watched over the protagonist on the ship with a stoic face, always watching from above on the second deck. The crew quickly got along with the protagonist and even found themselves joking around with them. The protagonist kept busy helping around the ship with various tasks and responsibilities for the first couple weeks before everything got too crazy. The blood moon was nearing and the ship had made it to the correct location in the middle of the ocean. One early morning before most of the crew was awake, the protagonist woke up and went to the second deck yawning and was taken back at the sight of the captain staring out at the sea with his back to the teen. The protagonist was about to back up when he told them to stay and stand with him, watching the sunrise. The two stood and enjoyed the beautiful view in comfortable silence when the captain began to talk about the legend of the treasure and its importance and the glory and fame that would follow if they did succeed in finding the artifact. His tone shifted to a more dark and reserved tone and talked about the dangers that also followed with pirates and smugglers, that death could be awaiting them. The protagonist was stuck, not completely sure how to feel about continuing with this adventure and the reality of what living on a ship like the captain would entail. Even though the protagonist was young, the teen understood the grave consequences of sneaking aboard his ship and nodded along and was about to walk away when the captain stopped them. He told the protagonist that he was angry at first when they snuck aboard but after all the time they spent on the ship, proving their worth and courage, he felt honored that they were with his crew. The rest of the day, the protagonist spent it busying around with the ship maintenance all the while the captain kept staring over at them, joking around and laughing with the crew. Then later in the evening, busy eating their meal, someone shouted that the blood moon had appeared in the sky and everybody shot out of their seats, pointing and staring at the crimson orb floating in the sky. The captain ran to his personal quarters and came out with a strange looking object, running up onto the second deck and holding it up to the sky and the protagonist stood in the crowd with the crew mates, watching him do something magical. The myth of the most desirable treasure of all time told a story about an amulet that could empower the wearer and grant supernatural abilities and has been sought after for hundreds of years. Nobody has been close to finding the amulet but some have found clues and made tools to help locate the treasure but the captain had been entrusted with the tool to find the amulet.
