Focusing on my work I barely acknowledge whoever it is that enters my office in favour of trying to get through my mountain of paperwork. Glancing up from what I'm looking over I see my neice stood in front of my desk with an annoyed looking redhead and raise an eyebrow at her before returning my focus to my work.
"If you want something Kate you better cut to the point because I have a lot to do and a meeting to attend in an hour that I'm already behind for because my assistant has failed to get her backside into the office." I tell her without looking up and suddenly a photo is placed in front of me making me gasp.
"Megan! Seriously?" Kate asks as I quickly turn the photo over so that I don't have to look at it.
"It's fine, just took me by suprise. It's been a long time since I dealt with that sort of thing Kate." I wave off her anger and motion to them to sit down. "Now, care to tell me what I can do to help you Kate?"
"Umm, well I need your opinion on a case we're currently helping on." She says as she fiddles with her hands and I chuckle before reaching over my desk to take her hands.
"If I can help you know that I will Kate." I tell her and she sighs before handing me over a file. "I don't know why your so nervouse Kate."
"Open the file and you'll understand." She says quietly and I look at the woman next to her who just shrugs her shoulder in confusion. Opening the file I chuckle when I see the name and Kate looks at me in confusion. "You're not upset?"
"Kate, I divorced the man six months after we got married, nearly 12 years ago now. Nothing that man does will upset me, especially not him dying." I tell my neice and she relaxes slightly. "What do you need me to help you with though?"
"Hold on, what's going on here? This guy is found dead by his wife and then Kate grabbed the file from me and brought me here." Megan says and I shake my head at that.
"Y/n's my aunt. The guy was her abusive husband." Kate tells her and I try not to laugh at the look on the other womans face.
"How the hell is that possible? You look like there's only a few years between you." Megan says and I smile with a soft laugh.
"I'm 13 years her senior." I tell her as I put the folder down.
"Aunt y/n practically raised me at a certain point." Kate adds and I chuckle at that.
"I helped your mum out a lot yes but she needed no help raising you Kate." I tell her and she goes to argue but I give her a pointed look. "Anyway, I'm not sure why you need my help with this."
"It releates to the photo. We know that he had a whole load of drugs in his system that aided in his death but the bruising doesn't make any sense. Do you know who would have it out for him?" Megan asks, slipping back into work mode, and I wrack my brain trying to think.
"There were a lot of people that didn't like him, they knew what he was from the get go. There were also a lot of people he owed money to when we were together." I tell her and pinch my brow. "There was one guy, he came round to the house one night to try and get his money but Mike wasn't home. He had left after an altercation that left me with a broken arm and several cuts, the guy took me to the hospital that night and swore to take care of Mike. It was thanks to his intervention that I divorced Mike."
"Do oyu remember his name?" Kate asks quickly and I look at her with a smile. "Sorry, I just don't want you to have to think about him more than necessary."
"It's fine, I came to accept what happened long ago Kate." I tell her before shaking my head. "You know, now that I think about it though he never told me his name." I add with a frown before getting up to look out of the window.
