Running

Running faster

Running out of breath

The darkness is quicker

Passing over me

The shadows call me by name

They echo my past and shout my weaknesses

My emotions take control of me

They break down my body

I fall to my knees

The world around me darkens

Deeper and deeper I fall, into this murky sea of iniquity

I lay on my back and begin to sink

Tendrils of memories and falsehoods subsume me

Enveloping my body, my spirit, limb by limb

Only my head remains

I look up

There is a light

Tips of fingers begin to emerge

A hand manifests

Slowly reaching down to my bound and broken body

Slowly

Not quick enough

The inky blackness overtakes my head

I hear nothing

I see nothing

I feel nothing

My lungs fill with death

My eyes close

My consciousness begins to fade

I hear the last beats of my heart

...

The radiant hand emerges

Approaching slowly, a finger extended

Closer and closer

My heart stops beating

"close"

...

I feel a warmth on my head

My name is called, but in a different tone

I hear a rushing wind, snaps of branches

My body racing through the sea i was just drowning in

Emerging with a great force, defying the laws of gravity

Shooting into the light i once saw

Now awaking back into the world

New heart

New mind

New purpose

Now I must fulfill it
