Chapter 47
JAMIE:
"I'll go ahead and make a call. You go follow Rose." And with that, Michael walked towards the manor garden and pulled out his phone. I am left alone down the staircase with my sister. I was the first one to broke the silence since I can't stand these kind situations.
"So you're here too?"
"Obviously." She weakly laughed. "I was surprised that Dad pulled me out from Easton High." She paused for a bit before continuing. "So here I am living like some trapped bunny in this scary manor they call home."
"You don't get to see Ace anymore, huh?"
Rose's weak smile suddenly vanished and was replaced by a sad expression. It was hollow and blank. Like a part of her is missing. Half of me is scared about the possibility that I may be like her and the other half of me is mad about my parents' sudden decision.
"Come on. They're waiting for you." She said and began to walk upstairs.
I silently followed Rose as she lead me towards Dad's office. Sounds of shoes clacking and floor squeaking were heard around us. The tension, the loose hairs and the nervous breaths? I could feel them. And I feel them hard. My heart was pounding. My lips are turning dry.
For short, I was scared.
"Welcome Home, Ms. Jamie and Ms. Rose." Jeremy grinned. Ms., huh? Are they really expecting that I'm already separated with my husband? I could only respond with a weak smile as he opened those big brown doors where my father lies.
Where answers are about to come to me.
"Hey Dad." Rose smiled but I could say it was forced. Dad stood up from his big comfy chair and gave her his famous bear hug and quickly pulled away to face me. His eyes were all lit up as well as his lips that were twitched into a jolly smile.
"Dad." I said in a monotone voice. He ignored my tone and went on to hug me. Mom was smiling at us, but like Rose, it was clear that she was forcing it. I know having resentment towards my Dad is making me feel guilty.
But I am so furious about him right now that I don't care.
"So glad you agreed, Jamie." Dad grinned as he made his way back to his place and sit at his comfy chair. "You're gonna love here at Paris. New life, new people, new friends and--oh yeah!" He pulled out this envelope at his drawer and place it in front of me.
"I just hired someone from Yale. Fresh graduate for your information. He's gonna be your new teacher." Homeschooled, huh? I grimaced at the thought of leaving my friends back at Los Angeles. "By the way, your room is renovated and guess what? You got the penthouse!" He chuckled in a jolly tone. "And I also got Peaches a lovely gift that consists of---"
"I didn't agree." That successfully made Dad's smile in a frown. I let out a heavy sigh and closed my eyes before continuing. "I haven't sign the papers."
Only the sound of the air conditioner humming was present. Rose was avoiding eye contact with my Dad, Mom was sitting patiently beside her while I was sweating like crazy. One thing that you don't want to do in your life. Do not and I mean do not push my Dad's buttons. If I'm a she-devil like my idiot of a husband would call me, believe me, my Dad's worse.
I instantly gulped hard when he suddenly dropped the nice guy act and gently folded his hands on top of the table. As expected, his formal business-like position. The last time I saw this was when he just fired 25 of his employees. This cannot be good.
"When are you planning to sign it then?" His voice was like the ocean. Calm yet strong in some ways. There was still a hint of authority in those like he was reminding me who's the boss.
