Him. He was all she thought about, all she really could think about to escape the shit hole that was her life. He was her best friend, and had been for years, until that one, fateful day. That was the moment Allie Danielson knew she was in love with Lucas Peterson.

Thursday morning, she swiftly stabbed her phone's screen until it would stop screaming at her to wake up. She had a long morning ahead of her, complete with a half cooked bagel, badgering mother, peculiar car ride with her father and best friend, along with the world's most boring honors algebra 1 class with the one and only Piper Collins. Piper was her second best friend, and she was a little crazier than most would assume. She was about 5'6", with a skinny build and hazel eyes that reflected her perfectly: in between. Piper wasn't part of the popular group of freshman, but her name was well known. She wasn't the smartest kid in the room, but she knew more about most things than the majority of the students. Her brunette hair fell just below her shoulders. Above all, she was the most stubborn and objective person Allie had the pleasure of knowing.
Allie was magnificent in most ways. Her dark brown hair complimented her warm, chocolate brown eyes. She hid her feelings most of the time, to the point that her anxiety and depression pills were what pushed her through a day at GlenOak High School.
Allie rolled out of bed and threw on a trendy outfit for the day before marching into the bathroom. By the time she bad reached the kitchen, her mother was practically shoving a bagel down Allie's throat as her dad urged her towards the car. She scarfed down the frozen breakfast before shoving her shoes onto her feet. With them untied, she darted for the door, her backpack dangling out of her hand.
The engine revved as the automobile was turned on. "Text Lucas and let him know we'll be there in a minute, her father said before sipping his cup o' joe. Allie obeyed and shot her real best friend a message after putting on her seat belt.
Hey loser, be ready in a minute. On our way. :)
Luke responded a respectable 15 seconds later.
Alright. But if I'm a loser, you're a lameo. ;)
Within another 30 seconds, they were parked in front of the large white house the belonged to the Peterson family. Lucas raced out the door, wearing his usual style clothing. A goofy and somewhat childish t-shirt, topped with an unbuttoned blue plaid shirt, and jeans that were too baggy for his tiny 5-foot-5 body. His loosely tied red high tops seemed floppy on his feet as he lunged for the back car door. Lucas flung his sling bag into the seat before throwing himself in. His bright blonde hair was spiked with gel to one side as always. Lucas flashed a goofy smile to his best friend, showing off his naturally straight teeth.
"Good morning!" he exclaimed, catching his breath. Allie responded with a tired yet polite greeting and her father merely grumbled as to say hello.
The ride to school was a mighty 4 minutes long, and Lucas couldn't help but show Allie the new magic trick he'd been practicing all night. She had already seen it of course, but only because they facetimed every night for hours on end.
Luke was able to move his hands faster than anyone, and trick someone with the slightest movement. He was a prodigy, even big shot magicians like David Blaine and Criss Angle were starting to notice him. Allie always seemed annoyed with his tricks, but she truthfully enjoyed them. He was extremely talented, and it added to his personality.
Allie and Lucas walked into the large, prison-esque building together, talking about the latest internet trend: the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge.
"It's so stupid! Big lips aren't event hot," Lucas stated definitively.
"I see the appeal, but it's still a dumb choice. Definitely not worth it. You should try it though, see what happens." Allie chuckled, elbowing Lucas in the arm. "I triple dog dare you. "
Lucas laughed. "Oh, you're so on!" he responded, jokingly.
Because they were in the same first period, they laughed and joked their way down to the freshman wing of the school, towards the world's worst honors algebra 1 class. When they arrived, the classroom was practically empty. Only a few of their peers were in the room, a quiet blonde girl named Santina, and a taller gamer boy with glasses named Scott. Allie followed Lucas to his seat next to Scott, and barely listened to their conversation about the apple watch before she texted Piper.
Where are you? I'm bored!
Piper responded 2 minutes later.
On my way. I was hanging with the other track and cross country girls in Coach Fisher's room.
Piper finally appeared in the room minutes later. She wore her traditional flannel pattern shirt, dark jeans, and a pair of light grey converse. By now, most of their classmates had arrived and Allie had moved to her assigned seat. Piper sat in her seat, diagonally behind Allie to the left. On Piper's right, sat their friend Lexi Jackson, a tall and ample girl of african american heritage. Lexie was wearing her usual: a Paramore shirt and dark black jeans.
In front of Piper and to the left of Allie was James Rockwell. James was 5'7", buff, and seemingly perfect in every way. Almost very girl had a crush on him, he was practically a physics and science genius. He was kind to everyone, and was well respected by all of the teachers. Plus, his jawline was practically a rock, strong and defined. Not to mention, Piper had a massive crush on him.
Allie turned around and faced Piper, who was grabbing her materials out of her bag.
"Luke is the world's largest dork, I swear," she said, smiling.
Lexi chimed in before the bell rang. "You and Lucas are made for each other! I swear, everyone ships you guys," she said a little too loudly before bursting into a smile and light laugh.
Piper couldn't help but smile at the comment. She opened her small mouth to respond, but the bell rang before she could say anything. At exactly 7:25, in walked the beast: Mrs. Dalton.
