Point of view of Demetri Volturi

The young girl had fallen asleep in her room. The nurse had given her a tranquilizer because the stress kept her from sleeping. I listened to her soft breathing as she rested.

Her heartbeat was much calmer than earlier in the evening.

I heard footsteps and despite the distance I recognized the sound of Alec's footsteps approaching. Alec came up next to me moments later with two bags in his hands. He had called me to find out the number of the room I was in.

"I called Aro, and he wants to know what you plan to do."

"I don't know, but I'm not leaving her. That is out of the question. I can't do that."

"I explained to him about the bond and he was understanding. He asks you to call him as soon as possible to let him know."

I sighed.

"I would, but I plan to stay here with her until the next sunset."

The girl was sleeping. We heard her snores around us. Everything was calm. I heard a nurse talking on the phone.

"That would be reckless. Imagine if she wants to leave and you have to wait here. " He told me.

"Alec, I can't just leave her. The paramedic let slip that she only has a few months left to live, but she refused to tell me why. I have to find out what she has."

I turned to look at Alec.

"Take her with you and change her. It's simple, just do it. Whatever she has, it is better to be immortal than die. You would suffer the most.

I shook my head.

"Not right now. I want to talk to her first. I'll wait until she wakes up. I'll wait and then talk to her when she's rested."

"You know what will happen. If you tell her about the secret and she refuses... You'll have to kill her. It is your choice if you would like to leave her and that would make you suffer if she refuses to follow you. " He told me.

"Alec, let me think. Go back to your sister and I'll let you know later." I told him. "I would be careful. I know the way back, don't block it for me."

"As you wish, but keep me posted."

Alec walked back through the door and I turned to Hayley. She was shivering with cold and I moved the blanket to cover her better. I stared at her and refused to take my eyes off her.

I sat there for hours just waiting in the chair and listening to her soft breathing. I considered several possible scenarios of how I would present myself to her.

When I saw the sun starting to rise, I quickly closed the curtain with a sigh. Having become petrified in my thoughts, I had not seen the time pass.

I turned to look at her as she seemed restless in her sleep and started coughing. I poured her a glass of water and gently helped her up. I kept one of my hands behind her back.

"It's going to be fine, Hayley."

She gasped in surprise and her eyes opened with a start and, suddenly, she was staring at me. She gently picked up the glass of water and drank it, staring at me. When I grabbed the glass and put the glass on the side table she looked over at me again.
