History Repeats
The door shut silently. Medication and tea in hand, Naruto played the game resulting in nothing short of perfection. Sasuke has food, remedies, and a wonderful source of hydration. Besides his encounters, nothing else went wrong.
"Naruto?" Sasuke's voice strained.
He spoke too soon.
Sasuke sat up on the mattress with his hair stubbornly sticking to his face. His dark strands were drenched with sweat.
Cobalt met obsidian, slight bewilderment hidden within the darkness of Sasuke's eyes. Naruto stilled his mouth slightly ajar. Surely he thought he wouldn't have gotten caught, but of course he did.
When Sasuke heard no response, his gaze carried to the items in Naruto's hand.
"What's–" he coughed, "In your hand?"
Sasuke could talk normally now. His fever must have dropped significantly. For the moment seeing he was doing just fine, a warmth radiated through Naruto's body and shifted to a small smile he tried to hide.
His body was doing everything possible to fight off the sickness, and it was working. A token of fondness gratified him. He's strong.
Strong in such a way that rivals Naruto physically, bur he could tell there was something else greater about him. The inability to give up even when it was the easiest option. Sasuke knew it was the easier option, too, but he wouldn't let himself choose it.
Naruto noticed this after that witty wooden bullet shit Sasuke pulled, he couldn't pinpoint the reason why he felt so eager to put it into focus.
Sasuke reminded Naruto of himself in a way, and he admired that aspect of him.
Naruto wondered how long Sasuke would last in this condition. Naruto bit the inside of his lip. The first time fevers drop, they come back with a menacing fury. Considering with how the first wave took Sasuke down, the second wave–
Naruto didn't even want to think about it.
He heard a shift from the mattress and quilt, instantly halting the world of his mind. Sasuke was trying to get up.
His senses heightened.
"Don't!" Naruto called, reaching out a hand as if he could somehow stop Sasuke's movement despite their distance. His words were. . .slightly aggressive nonetheless, which wasn't unusual coming from him, but the look in Naruto's eyes made Sasuke obey. It was a look he wasn't used to seeing from the blond. Or rather, a newly found look he recently kept getting: filled with care.
Fragility.
Somewhat perturbed by the accidental assertiveness, Naruto put his hand down and opened his mouth wider; it stayed there for a few seconds in a pattern of opening and closing as he was trying to find the right words to say.
