Tomomi's arms swung at her side as the brunette walked happily through the park, she and her blonde companion weaving in and out of the crowds. Tomomi didn't know how far into the park they were going or which spot they were headed to. She was letting Mami lead them to wherever it was the blonde had in mind. Mami was the more assertive one of the two so Tomomi often led her lead the way to places while she simply followed her companion. It was just easier this way.
The brunette could see the two of them beginning to get separated by the crowd. She let out a small squeak, rushing over to the blonde's side and wrapping her arms tightly around Mami's left arm. When the blonde felt her grab on, she glanced down at the brunette and smile down at the brunette who was now clinging onto her.
Tomomi was so easily scared when she was in the middle of large crowds such as this one. Mami had always found it rather humorous. This was a girl who could go on stage in front of thousands of people and not feel an ounce of nervousness. But when she was off the stage and back into a normal crowd, she could barely stand it. She would get nervous and scared so easily, she would always cling to the first person she would grab and more often than not, that person was always Mami. But the guitarist didn't mind it. In fact, she enjoyed having Tomomi cling to her like this.
The blonde didn't fully understand why Tomomi felt the way she did about normal crowds but Tomomi was also an odd person, Mami didn't understand half of what she did or felt. There was just something about being onstage that made Tomomi feel comfortable and at home. The same couldn't be said for normal crowds, that was a completely different story.
"This way," Mami said as she made a sudden turn. She could hear Tomomi yelp from the surprise but the brunette continued to keep her strong grip on Mami's arm despite it all. She was practically clinging onto Mami for dear life and she didn't intend to let go any time soon.
The two girls had strayed off the path and Mami was now leading them through the grass, weaving around the couples and families already curled up on the grass. The duo continued walking for a while longer before Mami came to an abrupt stop, causing Tomomi to smack into her.
"This should be good enough," Mami said. She turned to the girl still clinging to her, waiting for her to drop her grip. Tomomi got the hint and reluctantly let Mami go. The blonde gave her friend a small smile before letting herself drop down onto the ground.
Mami patted the grass beside her, silently asking Tomomi to sit next to her. The brunette was quick to act, making her way around the blonde and sitting on the soft grass next to her. From the corner of her eye, Tomomi could see Mami toss her bag behind her before she laid down, using her bag as a makeshift pillow.
Tomomi leaned her body back, her arms stretching out behind her in order to prevent her from falling down. Tomomi leaned her head back, her long brown locks falling over her shoulders and cascading down her back.
"Timo, what time is it?" she heard Mami asked. The brunette pushed herself back up into a sitting position, grabbing her bag and beginning to dig through it. She pulled out the cellphone, unlocking it for only a moment to check the time before she tossed it back into her bag.
"It's 11:55 pm," Tomomi answered. After she answered, Tomomi pulled her legs underneath her in a cross-legged position. She glanced down at Mami to see the blonde had her arms behind her head, her eyes staring up at the clear sky above them.
"It's sure passed by fast, hasn't it?" Mami mused. Tomomi let her gaze drop from Mami and move to the ground. Her hands reached out, beginning to pick at the blades of grass that sat in front of her.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"This year. Don't you think it went by really fast?"
"Well, we have been busy..." Tomomi let her sentence trail off, her eyes flicking back over to Mami. She noticed instantly that the blonde was now looking up at her.
"That's true. We've accomplished a lot this year, haven't we? It's pretty amazing when you think about it." Tomomi nodded her head before she let her body falling backwards. She let herself lay down onto the ground, her head turning to look at Mami.
"We have! This year ended up being really great and I know next year will be too," Tomomi beamed brightly. Mami laughed softly at the girl's sunniness, she could be happy about nearly anything. Mami reached a hand up and gave Tomomi a gentle shove to which the brunette giggled at.
"Did you think it was possible though?" Mami asked her when she had calmed down from her giggling. Tomomi locked eyes with Mami before giving her another bright smile.
"Of course! I always knew that we'd be able to do great things. As long as the four of us are together, we can do anything," Tomomi said with confidence. Mami always did enjoy that confidence from Tomomi. She was always super positive and looked on the bright side of everything, she gave each of the girls so much encouragement and support.
"Do you have any New Year's resolutions then, Timo?" Mami asked her. Tomomi giggled again, pushing herself down to lay onto her side. She brought her hands up, clasping them together and laying them underneath her head.
"I haven't thought of any yet. But I'm sure you have some, don't you, Mami?" Tomomi asked in return. She took one hand out from under her head, poking Mami in the side as she said her words. Mami used a single hand to swat at Tomomi's own, squirming from the ticklish touch.
"I don't make any New Year's resolutions, I think they're stupid." Mami smiled when she heard the gasp Tomomi had let out because of her words.
"They are not stupid!" Tomomi defended. Mami let out a small chuckle, giving a sly smile to the brunette.
"Oh yeah? Then why doesn't anyone ever actually stick to them?" Mami challenged her. Tomomi huffed out a breath of air, poking Mami in her side again. Mami did have a point but Tomomi wasn't going to let her have the satisfaction of knowing she was right again. The blonde squirmed from the touch, slapping Tomomi's hand away again. "No one ever sticks with them, they last a week and then it's all forgotten."
"Oh come on, Mami. There must be something you want to accomplish for the New Year," Tomomi pushed her. Mami rolled her eyes and shook her head. She was not going to fall for that one. No way.
When Tomomi had said that, only one thing had come to mind, but Mami would never say those thoughts out loud. If she did then Tomomi would push to know who it was and that was something Mami didn't want to happen, she didn't know if she was ready to tell Tomomi yet or not. There was still so much Mami was unsure about.
The blonde's eyes darted away from Tomomi in an attempt to look for something that could distract from the conversation. When Mami had started this topic, she didn't think Tomomi would insist on her thinking of a New Year's resolution, even if she should have known that would come up. Tomomi always insisted on everything, it was another one of her quirks that Mami had come to adore over the years.
Mami's eyes laid on a building she could see in the distance. On the side, the building had a fairly large clock that even they could see from where they were sitting. That was the perfect distraction.
"Ne, Timo, look over there at the time," Mami said, pointing her hand in the direction of the clock. Tomomi narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Mami before she pushed herself up into a sitting position, her eyes following the direction of Mami's hand.
The large smile crossed her face when she saw the clock in the distance, the time reading 11:59. It was almost midnight; it was almost the New Year. Tomomi was happy to spending tonight alone with Mami; it was the perfect way to spend it in Tomomi's opinion. Tomomi loved Haruna and Rina all the same, but there were just certain things that Tomomi liked better when it was just her and Mami.
From behind her, Mami continued to watch Tomomi. The brunette was acting like a kid in a candy store. Her eyes stayed trained on the clock, sparkling with excitement as she awaited the fireworks show the two of them had come to see together. The blonde always loved seeing Tomomi like this; she was awfully cute whenever she got excited like this.
Mami was considering telling Tomomi exactly what she was feeling. It had been years since the first day Mami had met the hyperactive brunette. It had been years since the first time Mami's feelings for the girl began to grow from friendship to love. The blonde had always held her feelings back though, scared that it would harm the band if Tomomi didn't share her feelings. The last thing Mami wanted to happen was for her feelings to cause a rift in the tight-knit band.
Mami didn't know how the brunette felt for her either; she didn't know if Tomomi's feelings for her were just friendly or if she too felt an attraction like Mami did. There were times when Mami felt certain the Tomomi returned her romantic feelings with the way the brunette would touch and hold her. But then Mami would calm down and she'd think about the things Tomomi had done in the past, Mami didn't really know if Tomomi's actions were genuine or nothing more than another one of her jokes.
Mami could feel herself being pulled from her thoughts when she felt Tomomi reach back and smack her on the leg to get her attention. Mami groaned from the pain that had come with the hit. She pushed herself up into a sitting position and scratched the back of her head.
It was only seconds later that Mami could hear the soft chime of a clock. The fireworks followed soon after, capturing the attention of both girls. Mami looked up at the sky, noticing that Tomomi was doing the same. Tomomi had her hands clasped together, held in front of her chest as her eyes gazed up at the sky in wonder. The fireworks were really beautiful with the way they lit up the night sky, illuminating the objects in the park the duo sat in.
With the sky lighting up multiple colors, Mami let her eyes wander back down to Tomomi. The blonde bit down on her bottom lip, her hands gripping the edge of her shirt tightly. Tomomi was more than just cute right now with how she was staring at the fireworks in such awe. Mami didn't have the words to describe just how attractive Tomomi looked to her at that very moment.
Her mind was running with the thoughts that Tomomi had said earlier. It was a new year, wasn't it? Maybe it was time for Mami to leave her old fears in the past. A new year did mean new beginnings, or so everyone said. A new beginning with Tomomi was something Mami wouldn't mind having.
Taking a deep breath, Mami pushed herself onto her knees and crawled over to the girl still too focused on the fireworks to notice. Her body was moving on its own as her mind urged her body forward. She had to do this, it was now or never. When Mami got close enough to Tomomi, she let herself sit down onto her knees just behind the brunette.
"Timo, can you look at something for me?" Mami said just loud enough for Tomomi to hear. She saw the brunette glance down at her and knew that this was her opportunity.
Tomomi broke her gaze with the sky, turning her body to face Mami to see what the blonde could want. Tomomi had only just turned around when she felt Mami's warm hands instantly come to cup her face. Before the brunette had a chance to think or react to anything, she could feel Mami press her lips against Tomomi's in a delicate kiss.
Tomomi's body was completely frozen; she had been caught off guard by Mami's bold action. But Tomomi quickly regained control of her body, her mind finally beginning to process just what Mami was doing. Her arms moved on their own, wrapping themselves around Mami's waist as Tomomi began to return the kiss to her blonde companion. She pulled herself as close as she could get to Mami, deepening the kiss that the two of them shared.
Mami pulled away from Tomomi but kept her hands cupping the girl's face. The duo locked eyes with each other as Tomomi's breathing got heavier. The sly smile returned to Mami's face as she finally let her hands drop from Tomomi's face. She let her hands fall down the brunette's body, grasping both of Tomomi's hands in her own.
"Mami... Do you...?" Tomomi was unable to finish her sentence as she continued to stare at her friend, their eyes never breaking contact with each other. Her mind was frazzled, running with millions of thoughts.
"I've been dying to do that for so long, Tomomi. You have no idea how long I've patiently waited for the courage to do that," Mami confessed to her. The blonde was working up as much courage as she could possibly find in her. It wasn't easy but now, after finally letting her feelings go, Mami had never felt freer. She was just praying that the duo's New Year's Eve didn't end with a heartbreaking rejection.
She was repeating a mantra of sorts in her head, urging herself to confess her feelings to Tomomi. It was a new year and she wanted to be a new Mami. She wanted to be stronger and to fight for what she really desired. And right now, Mami desired nothing more than to achieve Tomomi's love.
Tomomi opened her mouth to say something but she found herself unable to. The words caught in her throat, Tomomi was unable to get them out. The whole thing was surreal to her. Mami liked her. She really liked her. That was really the only thing now going through Tomomi's mind, the words repeating over and over in her head.
"Tomomi... Please say something," Mami begged her after she had been met with the long silence. The longer Tomomi stayed quiet, the more Mami's confidence was beginning to drop. What if Tomomi really didn't share her feelings? This could ruin so much for the entire band if things got awkward between her and Tomomi. This could ruin so much for Mami if Tomomi didn't share her feelings, she didn't want to face rejection from the bassist.
Tomomi opened and closed her mouth a few more times in an attempt to push the words out. In her mind, she knew what she wanted to say to Mami, she had it all settled in her mind now. She was just having trouble vocalizing everything that she wanted to say. Tomomi gulped before taking a deep breath, finally giving Mami a big smile.
"I love you too," Tomomi murmured out. She was happy to see the way Mami's eyes lit up, nearly matching the brightness of the fireworks that crackled in the sky above them. Tomomi could see the blonde's features being lit up by the fireworks that crackled above them; it made Mami look that much happier.
Tomomi gave Mami a shy smile, her eyes darting away from her. Tomomi could feel Mami squeeze tightly on her hands, leaning in and giving her a kiss on the cheek. The bassist could feel her face heating up despite the cold air that surrounded them. Just at that moment as she had those thoughts, she could feel a wave of cold air rush over her and Mami, a shiver making its way through her body.
"Come here, Timo. Let me warm you up," Mami offered. She let her hands drop from Tomomi's, opening her arms and beckoning for the bassist to come closer to her. Tomomi could feel her blush deepening but she crawled closer to Mami, letting her wrap her arms around Tomomi's delicate body.
The guitarist helped Tomomi lean back, laying the couple down onto the soft grass. She kept her arms tightly around Tomomi as the bassist squirmed around, trying to make herself comfortable. Her squirming eventually came to a standstill as she found a comfortable position. She had her head laid down on Mami's chest, one of her hands lying next to where her head was while her other hand laid between the two girls' bodies.
Tomomi looked up at the crackling fireworks in the sky, a bright smile coming onto her face. She let her attention move to Mami to see that the guitarist's attention was fully on her. Tonight had begun as just two friends going to enjoy New Year's Eve together and it ended up being the start of something new. It had ended up being the perfect night, Tomomi couldn't ask for a better way for this night to end.
"Happy New Year, Timo," Mami said to her gently. Tomomi leaned up, connecting Mami in a deep and passionate kiss. For the two girls, tonight was just the beginning of a new relationship and a new future for them.
