A/N. I hope you remember Mia. If not, she's a suki character in my previous works. 😊
I.
Was
"I was, a President's trusted adviser," I told this man.
"You were trusted by once the most powerful man in this country, who am I not to trust you?" He replied.
"You'll trust me too?"
"Will you trust me to trust you?" He said, smiling.

My name is Mia and I thought after President's Duterte's term I'll be jobless.
Hindi pala.

Maling Akala
"Akala ko, dito ka na sa Davao titira, Mia," the former President told me over coffee.
"Akala ko rin sir," I'm spacing out.
"Sure kang tanggapin mo yung offer?" He was talking about the conversation I had with a man.
"Why was there an offer in the first place? Do you know anything about that?" I suddenly snapped at him.
He shook his head and sip his coffee. "No. I'm not in charge now. Malay mo, ni-recommend ka,"
"Nino? I was reporting to you and who can best recommend me but you?"
"Hindi nga. Promise." He offered a pinky finger. I forced a laugh. "Ano daw ba gagawin mo?"
"As usual, hindi ko alam. I could not believe na-out grow ko yung seeking stability state ko because of the jobs I'm taking."
"Well, you're not getting younger, and when one goes up the age ladder, one craves for comfort. Why not demand, e tutal gusto ka naman niya. Mas gusto ka niya kesa gusto mo siya di ba?" He pointed out. I listened.
"Demand what? That I should know everything? Tayo nga naging close, di ko parin alam lahat, siya pa kaya na di ko nga siya kaibigan," I sighed loudly.
"Then just say No."
I laughed loudly.
"Clearly, you haven't tried saying No,
To the President."

Lonely Hearts Club
"Ate, baka he wants to change," Renz, a good friend who works in IT suggested.
"Eh bakit ako?" I keep asking.
"Mia, this is not about you. Why don't you ask, bakit siya?" Konsi, who's real name is Carmela, mentioned. She's a councilor.
"Bakit siya?" I asked everyone, already exasperated.
Silence.
"Hay, these questions won't do anything about my situation –"
"OMG, he's calling!" Ana, a doctor to the barrios, held my phone in front of me.
Everyone bowed their heads like Jesus is calling us as I picked up the call.
"Mr. President, good afternoon."
--
Uno, who's the first to speak after I hung up, a scientist, randomly blurted. "Try to get close sa sons."
"Sons?"
"Anak na lalaki?" He offered and everyone forced a laugh.
"Bakit ko naman gagawin yun?" I asked him.
"It's the heart, Mia. The heart."
"Huh???" I am confused on what's going on right now since everyone was laughing at that remark.
"Why don't we call this whole operation as "Operation Lonely Hearts"?" Suggested Aeon, a strategist. Everyone clapped their hands. I stood up.
I'm out of here.

Relevant
"Tanggapin mo," Atty Leni flatly told me.
"I've been offered a job by the President before, I do not understand why I'm suddenly not used to it now," I told her.
"Bias?" She offered. We're sipping some good coffee in Arco Diez.
"Yeah, probably."
Silence.
"If ako ikaw, baka hindi ko rin naman agad tanggapin. I mean, wala parin naman kasiguraduhan anong gagawin mo di ba? Tapos di naman kayo talaga magkakilala."
"Di ba? Kaya ang dami kong tanong na, di ko rin naman maitanong sa kanya," I replied and we laughed.
Silence.
"I suddenly remembered what you told me before when I was offered a post in ICAD. You told me, stay relevant."
"I did say that,"
"Stay relevant, Mia."
I looked up to her. Her eyes are twinkling.
We looked at each other for a while. She really has beautiful eyes.I smiled.
"Let's stay relevant."
