A Secret Worth Keeping

Y/N POV:

I look at Fenik, smiling softly at him "well.. you've not given me a reason to fear you yet, so why would I?" I say, going back to cleaning his wounds.

"At least I got that right" he chuckles, then sighs "I'll pay for the couch" he gives me a mischievous grin, which makes me giggle.
"It's okay, it's an old couch anyway" I smile at him "okay, now time for the hard part"
"I thought that was the hard part?" He asks, I smile at him, pulling a suture needle and thread from the med kit "unfortunately for you, that was the easy part."

After about an hour of me stitching Fenik's wounds, I bandage him and pack up my kit. "There, all done"
He groans and sighs "finally."
I smile at him "at least it's over now" I help him sit up "you're welcome to spend the night, I'm not sure I trust you'll make it home on your own. I'll grab you a blanket" I head to put away my med kit, then to the hall cupboard, grabbing out a blanket and pillow.
Walking back to him, I see him looking at the photos on the wall.
"that's my momma" I say with a soft smile "she was always the one to look after anyone who needed it."

"Is she why you became a nurse?" Fenik asks, looking over to me, taking the blankets from my hands.

"Yeah, she was always saying that I'll be head nurse some day" I smile, giggle softly as I look up at her photo. "I remember the day this was taken" I say, touching the photo frame, holding a woman with long, silky black hair, bright emerald green eyes, and porcelain skin.
"She used to say, if something is hard, but you still enjoy it, then it's worth doing." I smile with a soft sigh
"She sounds lovely." Fenik's voice cuts through my memory, I look back at him.
"she was" I say, giving him a weak smile "but she's gone. That's another reason I became a nurse. So I could stop as many people going through that too."

I shake my head to snap out of it and smile at him "anyway, we should be getting some sleep. Call out if you need anything."
He smiles at me, nodding gently "thank you for helping me."
We give each other a smile, I feel my heart flutter, and quickly head to bed.
