"come on mama and papa I want to go already!" the young boy begged as he stared out of their small apartment window.
"not now Toms the street lights haven't even turned of yet, we won't be able to see anything"
"why not?! I can see them right now!"
"Tommy your father is right, right now you can only see the brightest stars but once the street lights turn off like they usually do we will be able to see so much more stars!" Tommy's mother said with a smile as she pinched his chubby 7 year old cheeks.
"how does that work?"
"Well you better ask your father he has always been keen on the topic of stars and planets"
"she's lying Toms! She literally took astronomy in college!" his father shouted from the other room.
"Alexander! Don't expose my secrets!" his mother laughed humorously as her son was trying to find out what was so funny.
As the adults were bickering from across the room the little boy just missed the street lights turning off and the dark of the night overtook the streets and roads below the apartment.
"oh look at that! The lights turned off! Time to get ready boys" The tall blonde woman exclaimed as she picked up her only child and walked towards the father. She grabbed him by the ear and dragged him towards the entrance of their home.
"oww! Honey let go that hurts!" the father wined as he was dragged along.
"me and tommy are already ready and you saw your son's excitement to go see some stars, so put those shoes on"
"ofcourse whatever you say" the brunette man mumbled under his breath.
Once everyone had their shoes on the three put on their jackets and headed out the door with the small child insisting to lock the door.
After a few tries of trying to put the key into the slot and immediately crying when his parents tried to help the boy finally got the key inside the slot.
And many might think that was the end of his troubles and he would finally be able to lock the door but no. Now the hard bit was turning the key the right way.
"mummmm! The key won't turn!" the young boy wined as his mother chuckled.
"sweetheart you are turning it the wrong way"
The boy let out an unheard 'oh' and managed to finally lock the door.
Hooray!
"come on sunshine let's go" his mother smiled as she held out a finger for him to hold which he quickly accepted.
And so the small family walked down the stairs and outside hand in hand with the blonde male holding onto the delicate somehow well kept finger of his mother and the father intertwining his rough scarred hand into the hand of his wife.
As they walked further and further away from a place they called home Tommy kept looking up at the dark sky realising that in fact, yes, as they got further away from the city he could see more stars. Specifically the smaller more further away stars.
Later on in life he would figure out that the reason for that was because of light pollution.
Soon enough the family made it up a grassy far away hill.
Once they were at the top his mother collapsed onto the soft grass and giggled like a kid.
"mummy get up! You will be all muddy!" the child said upset looking at the once luscious golden locks have splotches of dark brown mud.
