"HOW DO YOU FEEL?"

"It's funny," Elia chuckled. "All I ever did...my whole life...I was told to be the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect employee... How do I feel?" She said in disbelief.

"I'm sorry Ms.Elia, I wish there was something we could do, like try stereotactic radio surgery but at this stage, nothing would work and its at a greater risk. My advice for you is, live your life to the fullest. Do things that you never did before, make some memories, spend time with your family. Try to enjoy life while you can-"

"Life?" She stood up from the chair. "What's life?" she grabbed the report from Dr.Lee and left the examination room. As she walked down the corridor, passing by each room occupied by patients, she wondered to herself, do I have be a tenant too?

Elia had just been diagnosed with brain cancer. While she was getting ready to leave work, she fainted inside the elevator, left to freeze for hours before she was found by the security guard; she was the last one to leave the office, it had always been like that ever since she started working. It took two long months before the diagnosis was reported to her. BRAIN CANCER.

She left the hospital and got into her car. When she pulled the seat belt, her hair got tangled, giving her a good jerk. She yelled out in pain and tears started falling down. She screamed at the top of her lungs. She had these random headaches for the past two years, and every time she had one, she would just pop two pills of aspirin and wait out the pain. Each time she got the pain, the sensation would be the same; headache, throbbing pain, sensitive to sound and light, numbness afterwards.

She got used to it.

That night, she called her mother, she rarely calls her mother; it was her mother who'd be the one to call her, asking for some money.

"Hey, mum," Elia spoke, holding back her tears. "How are you?"

"What do you mean?" She mother laughed. "What's wrong with you? Are you dying?"

"Funny," Elia pretended to laugh. "Just called to say hi."

"Well, you've never done that before," she was judged by her mother. "Oh, could you send me some money? I found a really nice dress that I'd like to buy for your sister."

Elia was the eldest, she had a sister, three years younger; married with two children, Elsa. Elsa graduated from nursing school and married a rich doctor, while Elia on the other hand, had to quit her studies at the age of 19 and began to work after her father died in a car accident. Elia became the sole breadwinner. She even helped pay for her sister's wedding. But never once had her mother asked her, When are you getting married, Elia? But it's more like Can I get some money? When will you get your salary? I need to buy something, send me some money.

"Well mum," Elia sighed. "I must have done some good deeds to have you as my mother."

"Am I a bad mother?"

"Goodnight mum," she cut the call and laid rest on her bed. She could feel the emptiness of the house eating up. She had to get out there. She needed to settle things before her three months term comes to an end.
