My arm blocks Itachi's rapidly before twisting under him and avoiding his eyes. My kunai flies rapidly toward him, but he dodges. I grimace. I know I have to keep him from forming handsigns. Although he is advanced in ninjutsu and genjutsu, his taijutsu is weaker than mine. He's fast because of his eyes, but I am fast because of my build. I separate his hands again.
This is what I've been doing for the past two hours. A constant game of keep-away, of avoidance. I've kept his hands apart and his eyes away from mine. It hasn't been easy. His gaze has been trained on my masked face, and I've kept my eyes glued to his feet and the rest of his body. I can see every movement. I know what to expect.
My left foot hooks around his right as I feign for his arms and tug his legs out from under him. I slide my gaze away from his falling face and jump when he swings a leg toward my ankles. This will never end. I throw another kunai toward his head, and while he dodges it, throw another few toward his legs and arms. Only one hits.
The bright crimson is enough to spark my demon's interest. I shove her away and continue onward, keeping his hands apart and his eyes away from mine. My fist flies for his face, a movement that surprises him as he catches it, and I drag him toward me. My left arm hits him in the gut, and he skids backward to try to lessen the blow.
Blood dribbles from his mouth. He disappears suddenly, and my demon hisses a warning. Above you. I sidestep the attack and lock him into a taijutsu battle yet again. I duck as a clone leaps for me and disappears into a cloud of dust above me before it nearly crashes into the nearly-blinded Uchiha. I kick at his knee, he sidesteps rapidly.
That's when he unfortunately fails to see me activate my kekkei genkai. My hair turns gold with my eyes, but I keep my wings tucked away. My movement increases in speed. The kunai presses against his throat as I land behind him. "One point for me." I say softly.
"We're tied, then." Itachi replies as I deactivate my kekkei genkai. "I think that's enough for today." I chime my agreement. The first time we'd sparred today had consumed the entire morning, and now it it's nearly four in the afternoon. I'm hungry. We hadn't stopped for lunch. I'd launched right into the second fight. I didn't like losing.
Once we're inside, the air cools slightly. It whispers past my exposed skin, although it is only my neck, and I crave the feeling of coolness against my skin. I take my jacket off. Itachi sends me an incredulous look as I do so, and I shrug in response before having a clone place my jacket in my room. I smile at it, and it smiles back.
The smiles don't go past our eyes, and they disappear the instant we look away. I go into the kitchen to search for the only thing I've been living on since arriving. Big, green, sour apples. I don't trust Akatsuki's cooking, and I don't want to cook myself. My mask comes off, and I bite into an apple. It really shouldn't be called an apple. It's size rivals that of a grapefruit, and I'm constantly surprised that the random trips to the grocery store always result in the buyer getting me these apples. It pleases me, though, and I'm grateful.
The apple takes me a while to finish. Although it's only an apple, it fills me like a meal, and I'm happy to eat it. I drink a bottle of water in between bites. I'm hungry for other substances, though. I crave meat and veggies and breads. I crave a full meal instead of a single apple. Well, a single gigantic apple.
Itachi watches thoughtfully as I throw my core away and continue drinking my bottled water. "How do you survive on apples?" Itachi asks as I return for my half-empty water. I shrug.
"With difficulty." I respond, casting the fridge a longing look. I snap my gaze back to Itachi. His eyes have softened slightly, ever so slightly, as I look back at him. "It certainly isn't impossible. If someone can survive solely on rice, I can survive on apples."
