Going through the security check at the airport. The California heat getting to us quickly. Coming from Maine with not a lot of sunshine and always cool outside. Never overwhelming humidity like it is here.
I grab my bags and walk with my family. We head out into the bright sun, and got into the uber we ordered when we landed. Feeling the AC on my skin felt good even though we were out in the heat for only a minute. We head to our condo just a few miles out. I look out the window and see the beach and the endless sparkling water. People sitting or swimming at the beach. Lots of people actually. I wonder if it is like that every day? If it is then rather be in a less populated part of it. I'm not a fan of people stealing my belongings, especially in a place I'm unfamiliar with.
We arrive at our condo and grab our things and head inside. It looks nice inside but a lot of stairs. I hate stairs. I walk up 3 flights of stairs to my room. Already out of breath on the last step. I drop my suitcase and just lay on the bed. I lay there until I hear my name being called.
I get up and head downstairs one flight to the kitchen. I walk into the room and I see bags and my parents putting away something in the cupboard.
" Hey honey, could you go across the street to the diner and pick up lunch? Your dad and I will be here unpacking, but if you can go over there and pick up something to eat for all of us that would be great of you."
" Sure mom, but I am going to take $20 from your wallet to pay."
" That's fine, be back soon"
I head out and go down the terrible amount of stairs remembering I have to climb back up them when I get back. I walk across the street toward the diner and enter the restaurant. A girl sees me and approaches me. I assume she is a waitress.
"Hi welcome to Little Dongs Diner, could I help you with something? Yes, I would like to order some lunch to go. I need two club sandwiches and one BLT. All with three medium cokes."" Alright perfect, that will be out in 10 minutes or so."
The diner doorbell rings behind me and I could feel a taller person behind me. Standing, waiting to be helped. The lady comes back with the bag of food, I grab it and pay her. I turn around and I slam into a chest. I realize it was the same person standing behind me, but didn't think they were right behind me.
"S-sorry."
I look up to see their face and it was a man. Rather handsome but tall, having to tilt my head quite up to be able to see him. I moved out of his way so I didn't look like a weirdo just standing there looking up at him like the very short person I am.
" Excuse me, sorry for being in the way. I didn't have time to move to the side."
His deep voice came as a surprise to me but more of a surprise he apologized.
"I-its fine" I blushed and walked out of the diner. I was smiling like a fool. I just saw him and I didn't even know him and I'm reacting like this. Wow, this is crazy.
I walked back to the condo and went up all those flights of stairs again. Out of breath halfway there. I definitely need to work on my cardio and stamina. Maybe this will give me that.
" I'm back, I ordered your favorites. BLT for dad, and a club sandwich for you, mom. I got the same because you know I don't like tomatoes. Here are the drinks too." I grabbed my sandwich and basically inhaled it. I was so hungry. It tasted great though, should have gotten another. I probably will go back and order another. In a matter of minutes, I have finished my sandwich and I'm still hungry.
I get up and throw my trash away. I head down the flight of stairs one more time and head out the door.
